Hohm Energy is another popular solar company in Johannesburg. What makes them stand out from the other solar providers is that they streamline your journey. They’ve prepared a step-by-step process, which first-time customers might appreciate. 

We like that Hohm Energy lets you choose between purchasing the system or renting it. These options also have clear prices that already include installation. 

Once you’ve chosen your preferred option, Hohm Energy will then match you with an accredited solar installer in your area. We think that this is such a convenient perk because the installer won’t have to travel far to get to your home or business. 

That said, some customers told us that the company doesn’t provide quick updates. This is most likely because the team here is pretty small.

While most solar energy companies are selling solar panel systems, GoSolr offers a subscription model. As of writing, the subscription price starts at 1,399 ZAR per month, which is a lot cheaper than buying the solar panel system outright. 

This option is great for people who aren’t staying in one place for too long but still want to enjoy the benefits of solar energy. It’s also great for people who can’t afford to purchase their very own solar panel system.

That said, there are some disadvantages to this setup. For starters, it’s hard to get this solar panel system insured because you don’t technically own it. 

And for another, if you’re renting for a long time, the costs will rack up, and you’ll realize that it might’ve been better if you saved the money to purchase the system. 

Thankfully, you can purchase the system rental after three years, which is great. But we recommend that you decide early on if you want to invest in a solar system so that you can spend your money wisely.

What we like about GC Solar from the get-go is that they offer a wide variety of services. Sure, solar installations are the most popular, but they also offer microgrid and portable solutions. Solar rentals are available as well!

One slight downside we’ve noticed, however, is that there’s no set pricing here, so you don’t really know the ballpark of your possible costs when browsing their website. If you want to get an estimate, you have to contact the team first. 

Once you have a quote and decide to go through with the offer, you can take advantage of different financing options, such as loans, leases, and power purchase agreements (PPAs). As a result, solar energy is more affordable and accessible to their customers.

What we like about this company is that if you’re sure your house can handle a solar energy system, they can send professional solar experts to assess your house’s electrical requirements. It’s always nice to hear an expert’s opinions first. 

However, just like most of the solar companies in South Africa, Solar Guru doesn’t have a set price for their services. You’ll have to reach out first and tell them about your household before they can offer you a quote.

Fortunately, they will offer you six different quotes, so you can definitely find a price that’s well within your budget. If you do need help to pay the price, you can take advantage of financing options.
