The 8 Best Bachelorette Party Ideas in Johannesburg for a Fun Girl’s Night Out

One of my best friends is getting married soon, and I’m really excited for her! She asked me to be her maid of honour, which means it falls upon me to plan her bachelorette party.

There’s a lot of planning that goes into organising a great bachelorette party, with so many different options for a perfect girls’ night out. Thankfully, after talking to my friend and planning it out with the rest of the bridesmaids, we got to have an incredible party!

We looked into some of the best ones, not just for me and my girl friends but also for you and your girl gang!

A Classic Karaoke Night at Saigon Suzy

Address: Shop U3 6B Cedar Square Shopping Centre, Cedar Rd, Fourways

Price: $$$

If you’re a fan of Asian fusion cuisine or, more importantly, singing your heart out, then Saigon Suzy is a must for you and your bridal party. A vibrant rock and roll restaurant, you’ll get to unleash your inner rock star with your girls while dining on fantastic food and drinks.

Their menu specialises in Asian food, particularly dim sum, Vietnamese dishes, and sushi. Their drinks are also top-notch, and when I asked the bridesmaids for their favourite, they almost unanimously pointed to the lotus flower cocktail.

What you’re really here for, though, is the karaoke. You can sing as loud as you want in their spacious private rooms. I found them to be comfortable and well-ventilated, and the karaoke machines had a great selection of classics to belt out loud.

Pro tip: Their sushi menu is Cedar exclusive, so make sure to visit that branch if you want to have some!

Have high tea at the Saxon Hotel

Having high tea is a time-honoured tradition of elegance, and it can also serve as a great activity during a bachelorette party! In this regard, Saxon Hotel’s luxurious decor and sophisticated high tea menu are hard to beat within Johannesburg.

Saxon Hotel, a 5-star hotel along the outskirts of Johannesburg, has a high tea experience which caters to all sorts of preferences and dietary needs. One of the bridesmaids, for instance, doesn’t eat meat, and thankfully, they had a vegetarian menu ready!

My favourite from the menu was the roasted pepper and cream cheese crepe terrine, a very creamy and spicy snack that paired well with the minty Moroccan Mint herbal tea.

After tea, we had some Chicago Sublime champagne, which tasted sweet, acidic, and almost like chocolate!

Pro tip: If you’re looking for an accessible spa day with the girls, the Saxon Hotel Spa offers very relaxing treatments and facilities!

Go-Karting at the Randburg Raceway

Sometimes bridesmaids need a way to release all that adrenaline from wedding planning. While it’s a little out there, go-karting is a great way to do so, and the Randburg Raceway has a great indoor course for go-karters of all skill levels!

Helmets will be provided, while the karts are fitted with protective padding and front and rear impact protection, so there’s no need to worry about any serious injuries while driving. There will also be a race instructor present before the race, and safety marshals will be around the track during the race to assist with anything.

I actually went go-karting here as part of a bachelorette party I was attending for another bride, and it was a really fun time! We dressed up as Mario characters and played real-life Mario Kart (without the bananas and shells!), and it was a very funny, exhilarating experience.

Pro tip: After races, there are both indoor and outdoor areas for eating and relaxation!

Sky Dining at Higher Ground

Address: 40 Peter Place, Lyme Park

Phone: +27 11 024 3433

Price: $$

If the bride loves good food and picturesque views, then Higher Ground is a great stop for your bachelorette party! Nestled atop St. Stithians College, this restaurant offers a skyview of the city.

Their menu is also great, offering coffee, appetisers like calamari and jalapeno cheese balls, and heavier meals like peri-peri chicken.

For the last part of my friend’s bachelorette party, we went to Higher Ground to chill out, take pictures against the Joburg skyline, and have some delicious food. We were all really big fans of the bacon and avocado rump, which was savoury and umami, with the avocado providing a bit of sweetness.

Pro tip: For dessert, try their malva pudding. It was incredible!

Outdoor Activities at Saddle Creek Adventures

Saddle Creek Adventures, while a little outside of Johannesburg, is still a great place to go for some thrilling open-air fun. With a wide selection of outdoor activities, including archery and horseback riding, it’s an especially great bachelorette party spot for sporty brides.

I attended another bachelorette party here. Riding 4×4 bikes through the ranch was extremely fun, and thankfully, there were assistants around in case of any accidents.

To end our visit, we decided to go on one of their scenic helicopter tours. These give you an aerial view of Johannesburg and surrounding areas like Pretoria, and it was a really memorable experience!

Pro tip: If you decide that the grime of the outdoors is too much for you, Saddle Creek has a spa plan that can be included with the activity package!

A Spa Day at Camelot Spa

Address: 3rd Floor, Medical Centre, Melrose Arch, 18 The High St, Birnam

Phone: +27 71 723 4814

Price: $$

One of the classic ways to have fun and relax from the stress of wedding planning is to go on a spa day with the girls, which was part of what we did. While there are a ton of great spas around Joburg, Camelot Spa stands out because of its minimalist ambience and extensive spa menu.

Their facilities were nice and relaxing, especially their heated pool and wet rooms for massages. As far as the spa menu goes, the skin care and spa body treatments were simply divine.

I was a big fan of the Purite Marine Purifying Treatment, which did miracles for my oily skin. The bride, meanwhile, loved the Salt Glow Body Scrub, which used natural salt to clean out dirt and grime.

Pro tip: If you ever find yourself needing to bring your kid along, Camelot Spa has a kiddie treatment and massage plan!

Girl’s Night at AND Club

Website: https://andclub.co.za/

Address: 39 Gwigwi Mrwebi St, Newtown

Price: $$

Going to the club is another staple of bachelorette parties, especially since having a fun night out with music and drinks is a great way to connect with your friends. While there are plenty of clubs to pick from in Joburg’s thriving night scene, AND Club stands out because of its retro approach to clubbing.

Banning phones from the premises, the club is all about living in the moment and enjoying the vibes and the people around you. Free from any prying eyes or cameras, it’s a spot where you can just dance, drink, and let loose.

AND Club was a stop at another bachelorette party I was at a few years ago, and it was really fun getting to dance and talk to people without worrying about the outside world. The music got everyone on the dance floor, while the drinks (especially the margaritas) tasted great.

Pro tip: AND Club is located right around Newtown’s nightlife scene, so if you’re in the mood for club hopping, then it’s the perfect place to start! Some other great clubs to visit include Niki’s Oasis Jazz Bar, Carfax, and Club Am.

Fine Dining at Kream Restaurant

Address: 1 Montecasino Blvd, Magaliessig

Phone: +27 10 786 1584

Price: $$$

For the more elegant, sophisticated bride, a fine dining experience can be a really special memory before the wedding. You can have such at Kream Restaurant, one of the most luxurious local fine dining restaurants, providing a robust, delicious menu and beautiful decor.

Their menu consists of some truly fancy foods, such as foie gras and crocodile sushi! For the uninitiated, it’s a trip to a whole new world of eating, while for those more familiar with it, it’s some of the finest food in the city.

My aunt, whom I’m really close with, invited me to her bachelorette party here at Kream. I found the food incredible, especially the spicy and salty dynamite chicken and the buttery, rich wagyu fillet.

Pro tip: Kream has private rooms for reservations, which are perfect if you’re planning to spend the bachelorette party there!
