One of the best things you can do during a hot summer day is to chill out with your family or loved ones on the beach. Imagine relaxing under the shade of some trees with fine white sand.
Luckily, despite being far from the sea, there are a few beaches (and beach-like experiences) in and near Johannesburg where you can overdose on some sun and water! Below is our list of the best beaches and beach-like spots in and near the city.

Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge has an amazing swimming spot in the middle of the lodge called Crocodile River. It’s considered one of the best open swimming areas in Muldersdrift thanks to its clean waters and the different activities you can do here.
Aside from some swimming, you can also do canoeing, paddling, rowing, and even fly fishing. If you’re a serious water sports enthusiast, you can also check out the lodge’s Hi-Tec Water Course with courses ranging from 500 metres to 1,500 metres.

Here in Johannesburg, there’s a spot where you can get that beach vibe without having to travel outside the city! The Beach Braam is a rooftop venue that mimics what it feels like to be on the beach—sans the water and the waves.
However, it does capture that beach appeal thanks to the white sand on the floor, the sun umbrellas, and the tropical lounge tables and chairs. Pair these with excellent music from their guest DJs and you have yourself a great formula for a beach party!

If family fun is what you’re after when in Boksburg, then Wild Waters might be the “beach” you’re looking for. It’s an amazing water park that has a natural oasis feel to it thanks to its use of natural earth and wood colours throughout the venue.
For example, their water slides are made to look like logs where you and your family can slip and slide! Plus, the area surrounding the main pool of the water park has soft flowing grass and tall trees offering a cool place for you to have a picnic.

Altitude Beach is a great beach-themed resort that will make your jaw drop with how fancy it is. Its outdoor pool is impressive, with clear waters and a surrounding area filled with tall trees, a grassy lawn, and comfortable lounge chairs for you to sunbathe in.
There is also a restaurant and a bar right beside the pool making it a fantastic venue for you and your friends to dine and drink while watching other guests take a dip in the refreshing waters. One of their best-sellers, their pizza with avocados, is a must-try!
