95 at Parks has a welcoming atmosphere set in an old house with a calming interior that makes you feel at home. The menu includes a variety of options like grilled octopus, butternut ravioli, and slow-baked Karoo lamb ravioli. 

I’d recommend starting with the l’insalata Caprese, which features creamy burrata mozzarella. For a main, the ravioli di zucca is a solid choice for vegetarians, while meat lovers might enjoy the ravioli di agnello with slow-baked Karoo lamb.

Pro Tip:
For a cosy, private dining experience, book the 10-seater room at 95 at Parks. It’s a great spot to celebrate special moments with close friends or family.

A Tavola has a cosy, old-world charm with red drapes and wooden furniture that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a family-run spot in Sicily. The food is all about authenticity, with dishes like their incredibly tender rosemary-marinated beef fillet.

I also recommend the prawn and yellowtail fish cakes, which were so good they outshined every other dish on the table. The white chocolate and vanilla panna cotta was also so delicious I almost wanted to lick the plate.

Pro Tip:
The restaurant allows you to bring your own wine for a R100 corkage fee per bottle, so consider bringing a favourite bottle to enjoy with your meal.

Ariel Modern Italian

Their burrata flatbreads were a highlight, featuring creamy, fresh cheese that paired with the slight sweetness of the roasted tomatoes. For dessert, the tiramisu impressed me with its silky mascarpone and rich coffee notes, making it a memorable end to the meal.

Pro Tip:
Since it’s located within The Amalfi Hotel, you can easily enjoy a diverse dining experience by also visiting Jarryds for brunch and Johnny Shawarma for a lively bite later.

Carne Kloof

Carne is a haven for meat enthusiasts, offering high-quality cuts from Karoo farms. The menu highlights Romagnola beef, Dorper lamb, and game, all raised organically for rich flavours. 

I tried the fillet and rib eye, which were tender with a rich, beefy flavour, while the kudu tartare offered a unique, slightly gamey taste with a touch of spice. For dessert, I had the dark Italian chocolate soufflé, which had a deep cocoa flavour.

Pro Tip:
If you’re a fan of Carne’s menu, you can visit their other branch on Keerom Street for the same classic dishes. Both locations offer the same quality cuts and delicious options.

I particularly enjoyed the gamberi alla busara—prawns cooked in a rich tomato sauce that was both savoury and satisfying. The roast melanzane with tomatoes and basil also stood out for its simple yet tasty combination of ingredients.

For a great start to your evening, visit Gusto during their aperitivo social hour from 5 PM to 7 PM for two-for-one specials on house wines and Gusto Lager.

If you’re around on a Friday or Saturday, enjoy live music while relaxing at their pavement tables on the mini piazza.

Be sure to try Luca’s homemade limoncello before you leave. It’s a perfect finish to your meal!

Their homemade Culurgiones, with a subtle mint and creamy pecorino filling, offer a unique taste. I also recommend the calamari, which combines a crispy exterior with a tender inside, and the chargrilled chicken seasoned with lemon for a zesty kick.

Nonna Lina is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring along your furry friend.

Their pizza always impresses me with its well-balanced tomato sauce and generous mozzarella, and the crust has just the right amount of crispiness. I also really enjoy the truffle burrata; its creamy texture and delicate truffle flavour make it a standout choice.

Pro Tips:
Don’t miss the aperitivo hour from 5 PM to 7 PM when you can enjoy craft cocktails while relaxing with friends.Check out their deli section for high-quality meats, cheeses, and artisanal products to take home.

Osteria Tarantino

The burrata salad and Tuscan cigars are fantastic starters. The creamy mozzarella and salty Parma ham provide a great contrast. For mains, I enjoyed the gnocchi gorgonzola for its rich, creamy taste, and the ravioli with truffle cream sauce had an earthy flavour.

Pro Tip:
For a pleasant summer experience, try to get a seat on the patio, as it’s a lovely spot to enjoy your meal in the fresh air. The intimate indoor space is also great if you prefer a cosier setting.

Riva Fish Restaurant

Nearby the restaurant, you can visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa for a dose of modern art, or enjoy a leisurely walk along the waterfront to see the Cape Wheel for panoramic views of the city.

When I went to Scala, I was impressed with their creative pasta dishes. They make smooth pappardelle with chicken ragu, hand-rolled spaghetti with creamy cheese sauce, and tasty beef shin pasta. 

I enjoyed the beef shin meatballs, which were tender and complemented by a tangy salsa verde. The pasta lollipops, with their earthy truffle sauce, offered a unique and satisfying bite.

Pro Tip:
Try ordering two cicchetti for R79 each to get a complimentary Martini Prosecco, Fiero Spritz, or Negroni Sbagliato. It’s a great way to enjoy a snack and a drink at no extra cost.

The Cousins

When eating pasta, use your fork to twirl the pasta directly against the surface of your plate for the best technique. Avoid using a spoon, as it’s not commonly used for pasta in traditional settings.

Arrive before 11:30 AM to enjoy the breakfast menu, which offers a great start to your day with options that highlight fresh, high-quality ingredients.
