March Restaurant- Birnam located in Melrose Arch is a great restaurant to check out if you want to enjoy fine dining with your family or colleagues. The interiors look stunning with its use of plush chairs, wooden tables, and elegant tableware.

Aside from its sumptuous menu items (which include steaks, salmon, salads, and decadent cakes), you can also reserve this restaurant’s private room if you have an event. It’s great for catered meetings or parties!

Pro Tip:
If you’re not going to host a large event, you can still enjoy some privacy at this restaurant. Simply ask the restaurant staff to set up the curtains surrounding your little area to get that private and cosy experience for you and your guests!

NCW Restaurant- Melville has a classy-homey feel thanks to it looking like a modern mansion with multiple rooms. These rooms can also be your private dining area shut off from other guests, making it perfect if you want to talk about something confidential.

The food here is also phenomenal and varied, ranging from pastries to meats, veggies, and desserts. Our favourites, though, have got to be their gazpacho, roasted duck, venison pie, and decadent chocolate fondue!

Pro Tip:
We recommend that you check out their menu in advance so that you know which ones to order once you arrive at the restaurant. 

Based on what we saw, courses or ordered food items can take a bit of time, as they are freshly cooked.

3. Onenineone -Rosebank

Surprisingly, despite Onenineone -Rosebank getting pretty crowded during peak hours, you’ll find sectioned-off spots that will make you feel like you’re in a private room. For example, there’s an area here that has 3 lounge chairs separated from other guests.

Each area here, though, is a joy to stay in thanks to its elegant and minimalist design. Along with the great venue at Onenineone, you can order some absolutely delicious food items like beetroot and beef tartare, shucked oysters, and karoo lamb saddle!

We recommend checking out their social media page for any special events or offers before you drop by. For example, they sometimes offer special dinners for couples during Valentine’s and discounted food items during Mother’s Day. 

4. Level Four Restaurant- Rosebank

Level Four Restaurant- Rosebank is an amazing choice if you want great mansion-like interiors with a dash of privacy. It has private lounge areas and segregated outdoor seating areas. 

You’ll love this setup, as it will let you enjoy some peace as you feast!

The private areas here are cut off from the rest by classy wooden dividers while the outdoor seating has enough space in between to give you that isolated feel (and a great view!). 

Pair these with some sirloin steak or cured salmon to make your time here special!

Located inside the Four Seasons Hotel, The Cellar Door is one the prettiest restaurants with a private area in Johannesburg. You can have a great meal at this restaurant while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the lush countryside.

We also liked that the private room setup is pretty straightforward featuring a long table that can comfortably seat up to 20 guests. From this area, you can talk to your guests in relative peace while enjoying some pizza, steak, salmon, cheese, and pastries.

Pro Tip:
After your event, don’t forget to lead your guests out to the outdoor area of this hotel. There, you can take in the beauty of the lush greenery and mountains of the area—one of the best views in Westcliff! 

6. Flames- Westcliff

Flames Westcliff is also located at the Four Seasons Hotel Westcliff, but it doesn’t really have a closed-off private room. Instead, it features modern indoor and outdoor seating areas that have enough space among them that privacy isn’t an issue!

Their outdoor seating areas are so spaced out that you can talk privately with your companion without any issues while their indoor seating areas have large pillars separating them from each other. 

Enjoy their burgers with their shakes for a great meal!

Pro Tip:
If the slots for the indoor seating area get fully booked, you can still go for their outdoor seating, as they have large umbrellas that can shield you from the heat of the sun. Just ask the restaurant staff to set them up for you!

7. Pigalle Restaurant Bedfordview

If you want to treat your guests to Thai dishes while enjoying some privacy, then Chef Micky’s Private Dining is a spot you need to check out. The interiors feel like an authentic Thai home with its use of traditional materials (like wood) and Thai trinkets.

What we like about this restaurant, though, is its authentic Thai dishes right in the heart of Johannesburg! From here, you can enjoy some genuine-tasting pad thai, sour fish soup, green papaya salad with some fish sauce, crab curry, and mango sticky rice!

Living Room Jozi- City and Suburban offers a unique private dining experience with its interiors looking like a love letter to flower gardens. It uses a lot of indoor plants and flowers to make the entire restaurant pop out along with its great view of the city skyline!

This means that the private areas of this restaurant are also separated from each other by trellises and pots—truly an amazing way to maximise space! As you quietly (or romantically) speak to your companion, feast on their burgers, cheeses, and cocktails!

10. Pigalle- Sandton- Sandown

Pigalle- Sandton- Sandown looks like an elegant Irish pub cum restaurant. With its use of hazel dark-coloured wood for its bar, chairs, tables, and walls, it has a subdued feel that enhances the private areas of this venue.

Their food is also something you can write home about with thick slabs of perfectly cooked steak, fresh prawns, oysters, salads, and cakes! 

After your private meeting, you can then head to the bar and order some drinks. We recommend the craft beers on tap!

Don’t forget to ask the wait staff if they offer special menus or courses during specific events. The restaurant often has a Valentine’s Menu, Easter Menu, or Ramadan Menu (among others).
