Heat things up with the best romantic getaways with private Jacuzzis in the Western Cape!

Hot tub, bubble bucket, Jacuzzi—call it what you want. If it’s hot, steamy, and has enough room for two (plus a bottle of red), it’s swoon territory.

The Western Cape has that formula down pat. Anyone who’s soaked in Camp Canoe or La Roche Estate with their boo knows exactly what I mean.

But if you haven’t had the pleasure yet, there’s always the right time and place to get smitten while in a bubbling tub, with mountain ranges or the sea stretching on the horizon. You can start with the list below.

Clinging to the cliffs with the ocean at its feet, the seven-suite Azamare Guest House is about as intimate as it gets.

That said, the Nautilus Luxury Pool Suite is where things really heat up, with a private hot tub and balcony pool overlooking the lovely Camps Bay. Plus, the lounge has a modern fireplace to keep those cuddles extra toasty.

Tip: Gauge the place first with a virtual tour.

Romance finds its fire in the natural surroundings of Camps Bay Retreat. I’m talking about their Nature Room 12, a sea-facing and open-plan crash pad grounded in an earthy theme and mellowed by natural bits.

The cherry on top is its wood-fired spa bath. As you sink into its bubbling warmth, the mountains and forest trees rise before you.

Tip: You can bring your furballs!

O on Kloof proved to my wife and me that you don’t have to travel far to get that Jacuzzi fix.

We spent our anniversary in their Suite Five, a posh accommodation that woke us up with natural light and Atlantic Ocean scenes. Of course, the Jacuzzi sweetened the moments, especially as the golden hour settled over the bay.

Suite One has a hot tub as well, though we didn’t stay there. The sea views there felt a bit limited.

Tip: Budget accordingly by reviewing their spa prices.

If romance, to you, means slow living in a cottage among natural flora, 5 Mountains is well worth the stay. Their Rose Cottage, in particular, brings that to life.

The 40m² Honeymoon Suite is simply designed for tender escapes. It comes with a private veranda for lounging or BBQs, plus you’ll wake up to the Bovlei Valley unfolding on the horizon.

And yes, there’s a private hot tub that’s yours and yours alone, but there’s also the 6-seater Jacuzzi at the lodge’s spa if you want to mingle with other visitors.

Tip: Ring them up to customise your experience with flowers, wine, activities, or whatever it is that you fancy.

La Roche Estate

From larocheestate

Address: Robertsvlei Rd, Franschhoek

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 8 am to 5 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 9 am to 4 pm

Website

Flanked by vines and the Franschhoek Mountains, La Roche Estate’s swoon factor is deeply rooted in the earth.

Their self-catering quarters, named after the vineyard they gaze upon, make things sweeter. Suites like the Pinot Noir come with hot tubs and fireplaces, with alfresco patios and luxury bathrooms to boot.

There are plenty of things to do as well, such as horse-riding and cycling (bikes are available for rent).

Tip: Consider tying the knot here. Their Festival Hall is a renowned wedding venue.

Atlanticview Cape Town Boutique Hotel

We got the best of both worlds at Atlanticview. The 5-star hotel was a respite in its own right without being miles away from the Cape’s biggest tourist magnets, like the winelands and the Penguin Colony.

Unlike most spots here on this list, the Jacuzzis sit next to their two infinity pools, not in the suites.

Still, the scenery of the Atlantic opening up in the distance made up for the slight lack of privacy. It got better during the sunset when they served us wines and hors d’oeuvres.

Tip: You’ll find deals at the bottom section of their homepage.

Nova Constantia Boutique Residence

You know there’s magic to be enjoyed at Nova Constantia Boutique Residence when the escape is smack dab in the so-called ‘Valley of the Vines.’

Even the suites exude intimacy, with them flaunting garden and mountain panoramas seen through either a balcony or terrace. The deluxe options take it up a notch, thanks to those private hot tubs.

Tip: If you’re into tennis, you might love their private court. No need to bring your own equipment.

Klein-Hangklip Eco Cabin

If you’re looking for something romantic to do in Cape Town, Klein-Hangklip Eco Cabin gifts couples the kind of wild seclusion that sparks bliss. It hugs the slopes of its namesake mountain, in the heart of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

The designer crash pad doesn’t sacrifice creature comforts. There’s a fireplace for nippier months, the kitchen has an oven, most appliances are powered by the sun, and you can take in the ocean vistas on a netted lounge area.

As for the hot tub, it’s behind glass walls. That means we chilled under the stars at night and faced the fynbos-dominated landscape during the earlier hours.

Tip: Book this one ASAP. It’s a favourite.

untether on Olive View

From untether_getaways

Address: untether on Olive View

Check-in: 3 pm

Check-out: 10 am

Website

Privacy is part of the package at untether. This off-the-grid destination only has three eco pods (Romeo, Hemingway, and Columbus), and they’re scattered across the Hawequas Mountains’ base to ensure solitude comes naturally.

The best part is that they know going remote doesn’t mean roughing it out. The solar-powered pods all have fully equipped kitchenettes, ensuite bathrooms, fireplaces, braai equipment, and coolers.

In terms of the hot tubs, they’re wood-fired and located on the patio, offering you the chance to unwind among fynbos.

Tip: Worried about missing work while away? Bring your laptop. Guests can request Wi-Fi.

Gîte

Check-in: 4 pm

Check-out: 10 am

For the French, a ‘gîte’ is a rental place (often a barn) in the quiet countryside. Unsurprisingly, that’s what this La Provence getaway offers, just with contemporary and lavish touches.

The air-conditioned suites enjoy modern comforts alongside postcard-worthy snapshots of gardens and the Franschhoek Mountains. A stream also flows near each suite, with the private hot tubs as the premier locations to view it.

Tip: Consider booking a two-night stay. They usually provide discounts for that setup.

Opstal Stay

From opstalestate

Address: Slanghoek Rd, Valley Africa, Rawsonville

Contact Details: +27 23 344 3001

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5 pm
  • Sat – 11 am to 4 pm

Website

We still can’t believe Optal Stay is just an hour from Cape Town. The wine farm setting, just a jump from the Boland Mountains, feels like another world entirely.

Stay-wise, you’ll crash in self-catering units for sundowners and long soaks in the bathtub. An estate restaurant is also open except during dinner, which is why most guests prefer getting the meal basket selection, known for its burgers and steaks.

Tip: Bring your hiking shoes. The place is surrounded by trails.

Camp Canoe

Camp Canoe is one of those stays that might make you dread going back to the city. Mornings here begin with birdsong, the rustle of olive trees, and the Simonsberg Mountains keeping quiet watch.

You’ll get all that without leaving their ‘tents,’ which are actually rustic yet luxurious pads with a hotel’s amenities, including a fridge and Wi-Fi. There are also hammocks and private hot tubs bordered by rich fynbos—and they double as stargazing spots!

Tip: Opt for a Friday stay to experience the night market.

Camissa Farm

I’ve always been in love with Banhoek Valley’s views of the Drakenzicht and Simonsberg Mountains, so booking a Camissa Farm escape with the boo was an obvious choice.

Here, roughly 60 hectares of a farm teeming with free-roaming animals stretched around us. The airy cabins were no side attractions either, with spaces that value natural light and outlooks of the nearby dam meeting the mountains.

Most of our time, however, was spent in the wood-fired hot tubs. That’s not to say the outdoors were boring, as wild swimming and hikes were steps away.

Tip: You can bring your little ones. They’ll even supply baby blankets if you inform them.

A Boat House

A Boat House capitalises on the ocean’s allure to charm guests. The Scandinavian-style rooms flaunt nautical and woody palettes, echoing the calm of the False Bay coast, visible just beyond the glass.

A wood-fire hot tub awaits on the rooftop deck as well, and it’s where sunset chasers sit their derrière on golden hour. If you’re the more active type, though, save it for later and go on a kayaking or water biking session first.

Tip: You can arrive late, but make sure to call them if that’s the case.
