What to Do and See in the Rosebank Sunday Market

At the Rosebank Sunday Market, you can discover a wide array of unique handmade items. One stall that caught my eye featured one-of-a-kind Kenyan slip-slops, which were both stylish and comfortable.

I also found some versatile pieces by a group of ladies from Diepsloot called “What If.” They create lovely crocheted and knitted items, including tea cosies that double as beanies and colourful blankets perfect for any home.

The Wood n Goods stall is another highlight, showcasing beautiful wooden ornaments and jewellery in various colours that make for perfect gifts.

Handmade pillowcases, table mats, bags, and paintings are also on offer at the market.

The market showcases some of the best live music performances featuring local talent.

One of my favourites is the Southern Cross Schools’ Djembe Drumming Squad. Their electrifying beats are not just entertaining but also offer a glimpse into the art of drumming.

Another standout is Dominic Hlongwane who plays soulful saxophone tunes.

The mix of unique finds, delicious treats, and relaxing music makes for a perfect Sunday.

When you bring your kids to the market, they can enjoy a variety of fun activities. For instance, they can try their hand at archery, which is always a hit.

There’s also face painting, where they can transform into their favourite characters or animals, and a jumping castle where they can bounce around!

The market offers a delightful array of street food and drinks that truly capture Johannesburg’s vibrant culinary scene.

I always head straight for The Legends Caterers & Braai Masters. They make amazing steaks and lamb chops that are just mouth-watering. Prices are pretty decent, ranging from about R30 to R100, so it won’t break the bank.

Then there’s The Snack Bar, perfect for grabbing a snack on the go. I love their chicken bites and sausage rolls. They’re quick and tasty, and you can get a good variety for under R100.

Make sure to check out Dress for Less at the market. It’s a fantastic spot for hunting unique vintage clothing and thrift items.

I remember finding a stunning vintage dress there that became my go-to for special occasions. The variety is impressive, from retro styles to modern chic pieces, all at a fraction of the cost you’d expect.

Imagine wandering through stalls filled with vintage home décor, rare collectables, and unique accessories that have stories to tell. That’s what the market has to offer during the Car Boot Sale.

You’ll find everything from timeless brass pieces to ornate servingware, each item seemingly handpicked for its charm.

Take your time to chat with the vendors. They often have fascinating stories behind their wares, making your visit not just a shopping trip, but a cultural experience too.

If you’re into digging through stacks of nostalgia, you have to check out the collections of second-hand books, records, and CDs at the market. It’s like stepping into a time capsule of literary classics and iconic tunes.

You’ll find shelves lined with Jane Austen novels, perfect for those who love a bit of 19th-century charm in their reading. And for music buffs, there’s a treasure trove of vinyl records featuring the Beatles alongside nostalgic tapes like Celine Dion’s hits.
