Stanler Farms has been around since 1975 and it’s been a local favourite ever since. Although we mainly know them for selling mushroom compost – yes, that’s actually a thing – they also have a nursery and cafe that we can visit with our toddlers!
The nursery’s quite large and has a large variety of plants – a great place to practise talking with your tot by describing them!
You can even let them play with other kids in the nearby jungle gyms so they can fully use up all their energy – you’ll thank us at bedtime!

They have a play area for your little ones where you can enjoy the slides and swings with them – yes, we’re also allowed to have some fun!
If you want some downtime with the kids – that is, if you can get them to sit still – you can munch on something while hanging out in their quaint tea garden.
2. Play and have fun at family-friendly parks.
Flamingo Park
Address | Wierdapark, Centurion, 0157, South Africa |
Operating Hours | Always open |
Entrance Fee | Free |
For a quiet yet large park to visit, Flamingo Park is a great choice. But in case you were wondering if there are actually any flamingos here, we regret to inform you that there aren’t any.
We still love it because it has more than enough space for our kids to practise walking or even running. Plus, we can bring our picnic baskets and relax a little – if our little munchkins would allow us.
Oh, by the way, the park’s been newly cleaned with the tall grasses trimmed and old bins replaced so there’s no better time to visit than now.
Jansen Park
Address | Doringkloof, Centurion, 0157, South Africa |
Operating Hours | Always open |
Entrance Fee | Free |
Jansen Park is a quiet and clean park that’s perfect for families to visit because it has a large space and lots of playground amenities. Your kids can roll around, run and ride the slides – of course, while you keep close watch.
Plus, it’s a safe area since it’s nestled in a secure neighbourhood. Actually, locals are usually the only ones who know about this place.
By the way, make sure to let your kids wear their diapers or have a portable potty ready since there are no public toilets in the park.
Bishop Bird Park

For a day out in nature with your cuties, go to Bishop Bird Park (yes, there are actual birds here). They also have pretty butterflies and the iconic blesbok!
Although the space is small, it’s a great place for some bird appreciation. You’ll have fun pointing them out to your kiddos as they fly past!
Even by simply walking around the place, you and your little one can breathe in some much-needed fresh air and enjoy the scenery. You should take photos while you’re here too.
