Pilanesberg National Park is a gem tucked away in Southern Africa’s transition zone between the Kalahari and the Lowveld. It’s a fantastic spot for game viewing and is malaria-free, making it quite safe.
I had a great time at the reserve, especially around Mankwe Dam. The early morning game drives were ideal for spotting lions, giraffes, and even a herd of elephants drinking at the dam.
You can explore the park’s 200 kilometres of roads or visit the bird hide near the dam to catch a glimpse of fish eagles and kingfishers. If you’re short on time, consider a one-day safari that includes two game drives and a light lunch.
Pro Tip: For a more private safari experience, head to the Black Rhino Game Reserve within Pilanesberg. Its exclusive access and traversing rights offer you a chance to spot the Big 5 and rare wildlife with fewer crowds. |
