I found Minuteman Press notable for their expedient, expert printing methods, specialising in screen printing and digital shirt printing. Even with their different services, such as standard printing, tumbler printing, and photobook creation, their t-shirt printing stands out for the quality of their prints and the shirts they use.
I visited Minuteman for an emergency t-shirt printing I needed, since I promised my family that I’d get everyone special shirts for our family outing. Thanks to their expertise, they were able to print my designs on around 25 100% cotton shirts in the nick of time.
That being said, their status as a fully dedicated print shop means that their prices are relatively higher than the competition. This makes sense because of the amount of equipment and upkeep they need, but more value-conscious customers may want to shop elsewhere.
Still, for this level of expertise, their prices might be worth it. What might not be worth it, however, are the graphic designers’ occasional dismissiveness and rudeness. While it feels standard for the more artistic types (I should know, after all), it doesn’t bode well for customer service.

As far as screen printing goes, Paltex is one of the more affordable local companies for t-shirt printing. Their reasonable prices are only matched by their expansive selection of custom clothing services, going well beyond the usual t-shirt printing and offering customisable hats, jackets, and bags.
I accompanied a friend of mine to Paltex because we wanted to print out a couple of t-shirt designs for his start-up fashion and clothing business. Thankfully, Paltex’s graphic designers and staff were able to immediately produce a quote.
They worked with us on the format and dimensions of the shirts and got them done in a couple of hours. The whole process, from start to finish, was only around 200 rand or so.
We were greatly impressed by the print quality, especially given that they use the standard screen printing method. That being said, screen-printed shirts are notorious for cracking and fading away over time.
Furthermore, the cotton-polyester blend of their shirts wasn’t as comfortable as the competition’s.

Gracey Printing is the first company on this list to employ more than one kind of printing method, and for that, they’ve already carved out a pretty impressive niche. They employ screen printing and dye sublimation and can add embroidery to any custom shirt.
Last Father’s Day, I designed a shirt around my dad’s passion for hiking and the great outdoors. I knew that my design would work best on a polyester shirt because of its durability and breathability.
I approached Gracey Printing for this project, and they thankfully understood my idea and used their dye sublimation machine to create a couple of shirts that he still uses for his hikes. They came out wonderfully, with very vibrant colours and good materials used for the shirt.
However, dye sublimation doesn’t exactly come cheap due to the nature of the machines and materials. Their standard screen printing service is slightly more expensive than the competition, too.

Printaman might just have the most printing options out of any company on this list. As a fully dedicated printing shop, their expansive printing services range from the standard t-shirt printing (screen printing and dye sublimation) to full-on corporate printing services, such as signage printing, window frosting and gazebo creation.
While this is all good and impressive, their actual t-shirt printing leaves some room for improvement. More on this below.
I visited Printaman to print a shirt I designed for my sister’s birthday, something she could wear for a Tyla concert that I got her tickets to. While the shirt, printed through dye sublimation and a mix of cotton and polyester, came out great and fit her perfectly, their customer service was…inconsistent.
Printaman’s staff, while knowledgeable in what they do, were difficult to communicate with during the creation process. They had ignored some crucial questions I had, such as their available shirt sizes and what time the shirt would be available for pickup, so I had to ask them about it repeatedly.
To add to that, the printing time took longer than usual for just one shirt. While the company is understandably busy with fulfilling all the services they offer, it unfortunately makes them difficult to work with.

What I find unique about Deer Multimedia Printing is that they do t-shirt printing specifically for sportswear and corporate/political branding. Unlike the other companies on this list, they’re primarily an advertising company, so their focus is on helping brands bring their brand identities to life.
My friend, who wanted to start her own small restaurant, approached Deer Multimedia for help in creating signs and, more importantly, employee uniforms. She found their pre-designed templates a little too loud and tacky, so she asked me for help, and we were able to create new uniforms that better represented her brand.
Thankfully, Deer helped her create her uniforms in different sizes and materials, and their visual print quality was great but subtle and understated. However, they weren’t able to meet the deadline, and her staff unfortunately had to work their opening day in casual clothing.
Moreover, a few weeks after they arrived, some uniforms had their printed names peeling off because of the heat in the kitchen. This doesn’t normally happen to screen-printed shirts until a while after printing, so this was also cause for concern.
