In terms of its dental services, Houghton Dental seems to be a reliable facility for root canal treatments. Clients rave about the competence of Dr. Aadil Jeena, the clinic’s founder and current owner.

He may not be a dental veteran yet, but we think his degrees and experiences in cosmetic dentistry, surgical and restoration implants, and laser dentistry are impressive.

From what we’re told, Dr. Jeena knows how to repair tooth damage and infections as painlessly as possible. They also noted that he is efficient in any procedure and makes no room for any errors or redos. 

But should you still be anxious about getting a root canal treatment or if you’re generally queasy about going to dental clinics, it’s worth noting that Houghton Dental currently offers sedation dentistry with different levels. 

Depending on the dentists’ diagnoses, patients can be either be relaxed while awake or moderately or deeply sedated during the treatment.

We also have to give it to this dental clinic for offering emergency services for cracked enamels or broken teeth. 

In case your root canal filling has worn off, we recommend calling the clinic’s emergency hotline to get urgent repairs.

For non-emergency services, we love that Houghton Dental has a tab for booking appointments conveniently. 

On the downside, we’re told that the clinic needs to improve its communication as it doesn’t respond as efficiently via email or its main hotline.

We’re also a bit iffy about the reportedly lengthy pre-treatment assessments some patients experienced. 

They complained about spending at least an hour with the assessment and were asked to return for the treatment as the dentists had to see other patients.

As for root canal treatments, we’re told that this clinic’s notable dentists, Dr. Faizel Mansoor and Dr. Paul Mathai are masters of repairing teeth with the most painless means possible.

We looked into their profiles and found that they have 20 years of experience combined in different facets of dentistry.

Patients highlight their efficiency, with most treatments not requiring emergency redos or fixes.

It’s worth mentioning that it can be tricky to get appointments with Dr. Mansoor and Dr. Mathai, given that both are directors of the clinic.

On a brighter note, FresherBreath has other competent dentists awaiting to perform root canal treatments for patients. You can find them in any of the clinic’s branches spanning Johannesburg.

We also have to give it to the clinic for offering an online booking form that lets you register for your next dental schedule.

It’s also a plus that the clinic offers online consultations for patients who want to know their potential dental treatments and how they can take better care of their oral health.

Another strong point of the clinic is that it uses modern dental techniques and state-of-the-art facilities to perform various procedures.

Besides the technology,  patients also highlight how clean and well-lit the place was. For us, the clinic’s cleanliness and ambiance help patients feel less fearful about their dental treatments.

On the downside, we’re not too pleased to hear about the receptionists not being accommodating to patients.

Patients griped about the lack of assistance they needed regarding their appointments and scheduling for post-op care and check-ups.

Since root canal treatments can be painful for some, we hope the clinic’s staff will be more considerate and kind with assisting patients with what they need.

Dr. Avron Alter has over 40 years of experience in general and cosmetic dentistry. We appreciate him for extending his expertise and services through his dental clinic, Dr. Alter, at Melrose North.

One of the clinic’s favourable points is its accessible location. It neighbours Melrose Arch, which is one of Johannesburg’s noteworthy shopping malls.

We think the clinic’s strategic placement makes it a convenient stop to drop by for root canal treatments.

Another one of the clinic’s strong points is that it uses modern equipment designed to repair damaged roots precisely and as painlessly as possible.

Patients highlight how their anxiety was reduced during their root canal treatment as Dr. Alter was gentle and reassuring to them.

They also noted how their teeth healed properly, so we’re giving plus points to this clinic for its effective services and post-patient care.

Another unique aspect of Dr. Alter’s clinic is that it employs Saafya Bhyat, a certified dental hygienist. 

Apparently, she helps screen patients for different dental clinics, as well as educate them in proper oral hygiene to prevent teeth-related infections and illnesses.

One concern we just have with Dr. Alter’s clinic is that it’s only open on Fridays for half a day. 

Since Dr. Avron Alter is currently the clinic’s only dentist and the place is only open on weekdays, booking a treatment may take a while as he has loyal patients seeing him regularly.

We also heard that the clinic isn’t that transparent with its fees. Clients complained that they were charged extra for services they were told were free over the phone.

We think it would help if the clinic is clear about which services are free and which ones are not to prevent confusion among its patients, especially with regulars.

First of all, we’re giving it to Molar Bear Dental for having such an adorable name! We think it somehow eases the anxiety patients feel whenever they have to see their dentists.

We also find it charming that the clinic has cartoon-like infographics of the dangers untreated root canals can cause. 

The infographics also have simplified terms, so it’s no wonder clients feel they’re in safe hands when they’re at Molar Bear Dental.

Besides the adorable name and setup, we’ve heard about the professional experience of Dr. Mohammed Zameer Peer, the clinic’s prime dental surgeon.

His years of experience earned him expertise in oral surgery and implantology. He is also reportedly skilled in treating kid patients; we’re also told that he extends his gentleness and skill in giving painless and fast root canal treatments.

Although, it’s just a little iffy that clients complained about small tooth fractures being missed at the X-Ray, hence not being treated properly.

We also love that his clinic offers emergency dental services for patients who broke a tooth or need to have their root canal treatments amended.

That said, availing of emergency dental services might not be suitable for you if you don’t live in Melville or its closest areas. As of writing, Molar Bear Dental mainly serves the Melville suburb.

But we can let go of this slight downside as this clinic has longer operational hours on the weekdays and is open for half a day on the weekends.

Patients can still book appointments at their convenience and come to the clinic to have their dental emergencies addressed.

When it comes to holistic self-care, we think that The Thinc Clinic does it best. It currently offers facilities for vision, skincare, and oral health.

In terms of its dental expertise, we appreciate the clinic for having more than one dentist capable of dealing with different oral issues for kids and adults.

We looked into their profiles and we’re pleased to find that Dr. Thandar, Dr. Dawjee, Dr. Magalhães, and Dr. Patel have years of professional experience in root canal treatments and cosmetic dental services.

One aspect we think sets this clinic apart from others is that its single-tooth implant procedure is also used to replace roots that are damaged beyond repair.

Other clinics may only clean out the infected areas and use fillings and crowns to keep the infection from spreading. 

A slight drawback we’re not too happy to hear about is that the clinic’s dentists may need to balance aesthetics and repairs. 

Patients mentioned that they had seamless fillings and implants, yet their tooth pain returned only after a few days. 

It’s fortunate that the clinic apologised for any errors in their procedures and offered to redo them.

We also love The Thinc Clinic for offering emergency dental services to anyone in need of urgent repairs or treatments for their pain and broken teeth. 

The clinic currently has an emergency channel (WhatsApp) available for you to book an appointment at your earliest convenience.

We’re just concerned about how unfriendly the receptionists are with accommodating patients enquiring about the clinic’s dental services.

It wouldn’t hurt if the staff fine-tunes how they communicate with patients. We think kindness and a welcoming attitude may help patients feel less anxious and uncomfortable about their treatments.
