If you’re craving authentic Japanese dishes, then Daruma Japanese Restaurant is a restaurant you need to check out. 

Located on the Ground Floor of Southern Sun Hotel, Hyde Park the place has that oriental vibe to it thanks to its use of bamboo sliding doors and tatami placemats.

What’s more, you can watch how your orders are prepared if you sit in the area where the chefs cook their specialties on an iron griddle. Watch them work their magic as they prepare their teppanyaki, sushis, sashimis, and tempuras for your enjoyment.

Willoughby and Co. is a great restaurant to enjoy a fantastic meal when in Hyde Park thanks to its strategic location. This seafood restaurant is located at the Victorian Wharf Shopping Centre, perfect for those craving seafood after shopping!

They have signature cold and hot dishes that you should definitely check out like jalapeno salmon sashimi for ZAR 169 and prawn toast for ZAR 115. Their tempuras (yasai/veggies or ebi/prawns) are also a must-try!

Pro Tip:
Before placing your order, you can ask the restaurant’s wait staff about the availability of certain seafood. The restaurant only uses fresh fish, so availability isn’t always guaranteed.

Motherland Coffee located in Hyde Park isn’t a full restaurant. Located in Hyde Park Lane, this coffee kiosk is an awesome spot to grab a quick bite or a cup of joe!

If you want something to perk you up before you start your day, you can order their classic coffees such as espresso, macchiato, cortado, cappuccino, Americano, and latte. Pair these with their Big Papa Panini or avo toast for that ideal light meal!

If elegant Italian dining is what you’re after, then Luce Restaurant at the Southern Sun is a place you need to consider. The interiors of this restaurant are top-notch and quite inviting thanks to the impressive wine shelves and its large glass windows with a view.

We recommend their genuine Italian dishes such as pastas, e.g., alfredo linguini, prawn risotto, and pollo fettuccine. They also have amazing meat dishes (like oven-roasted belly and braised lamb shank) that you need to try at least once!

Pro Tip:
While checking out their menu, look for the letter V to the left of the food items listed. This means that these specific selections are vegan and perfect if you want something plant-based during your meal here. 

Life Grand Cafe

Life Grand Cafe is a phenomenal place to be for great vibes, good food, and amazing views. The restaurant has a colonial suburban vibe thanks to the wooden facade and walls, intricate dining hall set-up, and elegant tableware and utensils.

We also like the variety of the dishes they serve here such as pizzas, pasta carbonara, fruit salad, and deep-fried calamari served with a slice of lime. They also serve beverages that will certainly perk you up like green teas and lattes!

Pro Tip:
If you want to get a great view of the waterfront, you can ask the wait staff to have you seated in their outdoor dining area. Here, you can get an unobstructed view of the harbour and storefronts surrounding the restaurant.

Glenda’s

We can’t help but fall in love with how Glenda’s is set up! It looks like a beautiful suburban home with wallpapers decked in colourful flower prints, food counters that look like kitchen countertops, and comfortable and simple furniture for you to relax in.

They also offer meals for every time of day. From breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks—you name and they have a meal for it. 

Try their truffle fried eggs for breakfast, salt and pepper calamari for lunch, and beef carpaccio for dinner!

You can also refresh and detox with their fresh juice offerings here. You can go for their fresh green, red, or yellow juices for ZAR 70 each, or you can try their freshly squeezed orange juice with ginger shot!

Tashas Le Parc is an impressive restaurant located in Hyde Park. It has one of the most unique vibes in a restaurant with interiors that look like an elegant buffet combined with a festive garden feel thanks to its colourful decor, indoor plants, and classy furniture. 

True to its festive and unique feel, the restaurant offers creative (and yummy) eats that include their signature burger with bacon and gorgonzola, lamb cutlets with rosemary and olive oil, and lemon chicken soaked in lemon butter.

1920 Portuguese Restaurant is a charming and casual restaurant that you need to check out if you’re craving Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine. The interiors of this establishment will make you feel at home with its comfy chairs and wooden tables.

While they do have snacks and savoury pastries like their traditional chourico (grilled sausage) and vegetable samosas, we recommend their mains and specials. You won’t regret trying out their chicken peri-peri and their goat curry.
