The Best Abortion Clinics in Johannesburg

Cost - We chose clinics that offer value for their price for the cost of the procedure itself as well as any add-ons that they may have.

Accessibility - We considered clinics that had long operating hours, multiple payment options, and had a number of branches.

Treatment - We selected clinics that offer a variety of treatments types that you can choose from. We also looked into their post-treatment services.

Equipment and Facilities - We also examined each entry’s respective facilities along with the equipment they use and determined how up-to-date they are with current healthcare standards.

Marie Stopes South Africa offers an international approach towards sexual and reproductive healthcare services. These include contraceptives, sexual health, and abortion services to name a few.

We think it’s worth highlighting that they have a number of clinics across South Africa. Namely, branches in Western and Eastern Cape, Guateng, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal.

Their abortion services include medical (for less than nine weeks) and procedural (up to 20 weeks). You’ll be given a sedative, either via oral tablet or IV line, to ensure that it’ll be painless.

Another aspect worth mentioning is that they offer post-abortion contraceptives for free as long as you get it the same day as the treatment. You can choose among injections, pills, or IUDs.

However, we were disappointed that many clients complained of their clinics being understaffed. Hence, this may prove to be an inconvenience especially if the clinic is full.

You can book an appointment via phone or online on their website. You can pay via card machine, cash, cash deposit, and EFT. They also accept the majority of medical aid schemes.

Take note that they have a prepayment policy. This means that you’ll have to pay a certain amount at least 24 hours before your schedule to secure your appointment.

Unfortunately, their rates aren’t available on their website and need further inquiry.

Pros

  • Many branches across South Africa
  • Rates are available on website
  • Has online booking
  • Offers same-day appointments on Saturdays and Sundays

Cons

  • No payment scheme info
  • No aftercare info

If accessibility is one of your key deciding factors in choosing a clinic, Faith Abortion Clinic has an extensive list of branches all around South Africa.

They offer two kinds of abortion options: pain-free Cytotec abortion pills and surgical abortion. Their surgical procedure can be performed from 3 to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Aside from abortions, free pregnancy tests are the only other service they offer. You can’t get contraceptives from them, which we think is quite limiting.

They also don’t have any information regarding their aftercare services, and we think this is an oversight.

On the bright side, we like that they have same-day appointments on Saturdays and Sundays. We think this will come in handy in the case of emergencies.

If you can’t make an appointment, they also accept walk-ins. However, since they’re quite popular, it may be difficult to secure a slot especially if they’re packed.

We appreciate the convenience that their online booking brings. Their website also features a chat function that allows you to converse with one of their representatives.

Aside from that, their website also allows you to make an account. Here, you can make transactions such as purchasing the pills on your own.

However, they don’t elaborate on payment options, which we think may provide an obstacle to the patient or at least lengthen the process. Nevertheless, they have a ton of branches that you can visit for inquiry.

Pros

  • Offer student disccount
  • Offers free post-abortion counseling
  • Offers telemedical services

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays
  • Has only one clinic
  • You have to inquire for rates

Choices Women’s Clinic specializes in gynecology services, emergency contraception, family planning, and safe abortion.

Before anything else, you’ll be given pre-procedural advice to ensure that you’re fully aware of all your options and their implications.

If you can’t make it to their clinic, they also offer telemedical services. Here, you can simply call in and have a phone consultation with one of their staff.

We think it’s worth highlighting that they also offer same-day abortion pills delivery. We appreciate this convenience since you can do it ASAP in the comfort of your home.

To add to their list of pros, they also offer free post-abortion counseling services. If you’re having difficulties coping, we highly suggest taking them up on this offer.

Also, they offer student discounts. However, the details of claiming this aren’t disclosed on their website, so you’ll have to inquire.

We did find their website lacking because they lacked details on the procedures and such. Nevertheless, you can still inquire via phone or visit them at their clinic.

Unfortunately, they only have one clinic, though. Hence, this may make it difficult to schedule an appointment if they’re experiencing an influx of clients.

  • Doctors are on-call 24/7
  • Same-day appointments available
  • Open daily
  • Walk-ins accepted
  • Free consultation
  • Free after procedure womb cleaning and check-ups
  • Has online booking

Cons

  • Rates need inquiry
  • Due to their popularity, it may be difficult to secure a slot

Connect Women Clinic is a private medical clinic that offers abortion services such as termination pills (from one week) and surgical abortion (from 4 to 12 weeks).

Their surgical abortion is performed using the manual vacuum aspiration technique. The methods used to open the cervix will depend on how far along the pregnancy is.

Unfortunately, rates need further inquiry. Even so, we think that their free consultation makes up for it.

We think that they’re worth checking out because their doctors are on call 24/7. If you’re in a rush, they also accept same-day appointments as well as walk-ins.

Their clinic is also open daily but only until 6:30pm at the latest. Nevertheless, we appreciate the accessibility since they also have a number of clinics around South Africa.

After the procedure, they offer free womb cleaning as well as free-check ups to ensure no complications or side effects.

You can easily book an appointment via their website or contact them through WhatsApp. However, due to high demand, it may be difficult to secure an appointment.

Hence, we recommend doing so as soon as you can.
