Pros

  • Reasonable prices
  • Good selection of tiles

Cons

  • Can be unresponsive to enquiries
  • Reports on having poor quality products

Tiles 4 All is one of South Africa’s go-to places for various tiles, flooring solutions, roof and ceiling products, and other accessories. They’ve been in the business for over 16 years and have been able to build their name and expand their business.

Aside from selling tiles, they also offer all-around services from tiling planning, technical advice, provision of independent tilers, and transportation. We like that they value customers’ convenience and provide solutions for all tile-related needs under one roof.

Tiles 4 All is quite known for its inclusive catalogue of ceramic tiles. It’s a plus for their customers that they have products for every colour and trendy style, in varying sizes.

Their customers also love that Tiles 4 All really does mean tiles for everyone, with their low prices. Tiles 4 All upholds a “price beat promise” where they beat any written quotation with a lower price, which we think is bold.

On top of that, they also offer discounts on selected items from time to time. But we must warn you that stocks do go fast, so be ready to add that tile to your shopping cart and checkout.

Quality-wise, we think Tiles 4 All can be inconsistent. While their prices are cheaper than their competitors, some of their ceramic tiles reportedly look cheap, are thin, and are prone to breaking.

Apparently, the shop isn’t so big on customer relations either. We’re told Tiles 4 All’s representatives can be unresponsive to enquiries on all of their online platforms.

On-site, some staff are reportedly rude and unattentive to customers. Some big spenders are disappointed that they weren’t assisted properly and instead caught staff just hanging around.

Pros

  • Esteemed for having helpful staff
  • Offers a wide range of tiles for all areas of the home

Cons

  • Reports on subpar product quality
  • Expensive

For stylish ceramic tile finds, you have to check out Trend Tap & Tile. They’ve been in business for 20 years already but one thing we like about this shop is they’re always in style.

Their forte is bathrooms, and you’ll find elegant bathroom fixtures and taps in their catalogue. But they offer a good selection of wall and floor tiles that are more versatile too.

Customers love their tiles that have chic patterns and a pleasing colour palette. We noticed though that a lot of the tiles’ designs look similar and the colours are all only from one palette.

We also like that Trend Tap & Tile has stocks of all the biggest ceramic tile brands.

Trend Tap & Tile’s team is highly commended by their previous customers for impressive servicing.

Customers say that the staff are helpful and professional in handling customers. Moreover, the staff are also complimented by buyers as knowledgeable and patient.

While Trend Tap & Tile does have aesthetic and durable tiles, some customers say that they aren’t satisfied with some of the stock’s quality because of product chips and cracks.

We’re told some customers experience receiving broken or damaged tiles from the shop, which is a bit concerning especially since they put a premium on luxury.

Moreover, customers don’t get their tiles from this shop at a cheap price. Each tile is sold by sqm with a price range of R 129.90 to as much as R 599.90, which is a higher range compared to competitors.

3. CTM

Pros

  • Well-established business with a solid market
  • Has a Tile Visualiser feature
  • Offers all-around services

Cons

  • Understaffed
  • Weak customer relations

CTM is one of the most sought-after ceramic tile suppliers in Johannesburg and nearby areas. They’re popular for having a comprehensive catalogue of in-style tiles, lights, and home fixtures.

Over the years, their business has expanded and they’ve been able to build their name as one of the in-demand tile shops in Joburg.

We also find it impressive that CTM has a BBBEE Level 2 accreditation. This means the company actively plays their part in boosting black ownership, management and employment equity, which is awesome.

One notable hallmark CTM has is they have a “Tile Visualiser” feature live on its website. Using this, potential buyers can upload a photo of their home interior and test out tiles from CTM’s selection to see how they’ll look.

Another thing we like about CTM is they’re multifaceted. They offer all-around services namely contractor services, installation partnership, CTM rewards, and delivery services including international orders.

They often put a bunch of tile items on sale, which is great for those looking for a good deal.

CTM is quite flexible in terms of payments too. They accept online payments, cash, and credit cards.

In addition, they offer several buy now, pay later options with varying credit limits which you can read about on their website.

If there’s anything CTM needs to work on, it’s their customer servicing. Some customers we’ve spoken to were disgruntled about not being assisted at all when they went to the store.

CTM’s lines are reportedly difficult to get ahold of too. We’re told customers are disappointed to find their enquiries and quotation requests ignored by CTM’s staff.

4. Tile Africa

Pros

  • Products offer great value for money
  • Also sells installation essentials

Cons

  • Reports on incorrect orders
  • Inconsistent servicing

Tile Africa is another big name in Johannesburg’s flooring and tile business. They have 34 branches spread out all over South Africa and have years of experience in the business backing them up.

Tile Africa gives its customers a great variety of ceramic tiles in varying colours, mostly warm and neutral, which their customers find attractive and homey.

They’re also partnered with Johnson Tiles and Out of Africa and are updated with the brands’ latest releases.

Customers prefer buying their tiles from Tile Africa because their products offer great value for money. Ceramic tiles can be sold by box or per square metre, and customers are quite happy with their rates for premium tiles.

We’re only iffy about Tile Africa’s inconsistent customer servicing. We hear there are reports on customers dealing with discourteous and second-rate staff who are either rude or unattentive, which is a letdown.

In addition, some customers also had problems with their orders and complain that they received the wrong items. What disheartens us though is when the complainant reached out to Tile Africa with their concern, they were reportedly ignored.

We hope that management is moving quickly to address these issues, as these can tarnish their reputation for being a great service provider.

5. Italtile

Pros

  • Has a wide variety of ceramic tiles stocks
  • Products are scratch-resistant, perfectly measured and shaped, and durable

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Customer servicing can be improved

For stylish and lavish ceramic tile finds, Italtile is your spot. Italtile was established in 1969 and has been devoted to luxury and beauty ever since.

They offer a wide selection of ceramic tiles of different colours and styles, wall finishes, home fixtures, and outdoor cladding that fit every taste. Italtile also has a visualiser live on its website, which we love.

Although they put a premium on aesthetics, Italtile doesn’t sacrifice the quality of its products. Customers choose this shop over others for the calibre and beautiful combination of the tiles in their selection.

You might also want to be on standby as Italtile also frequently features selected items for promotions and they’re sold at a cheaper price, which is an opportunity to score a good deal.

As Italtile is partnered with luxury brands and their tile selection is mostly composed of imported products, their pricing is within a higher range too. Considering this, customers on a tighter budget might need to shop elsewhere.

We also think Italtile can still be improved. We hear minor grumbles from potential buyers who experienced being ignored in the store, which is a tad disappointing.

In addition, customers don’t appreciate Italtile’s after-sales care. Customers complain that requests are delayed and their concerns about products months after installation are either dismissed or outright ignored.
