5 Recommended Clinics in Johannesburg for Double Eyelid Surgery Homepage

5 Recommended Clinics in Johannesburg for Double Eyelid Surgery

Facilities – The clinics we selected have modern medical equipment. We also made sure that all materials and techniques are safe.

Rates – Plastic surgery costs a lot. We assessed whether the rates they have for procedures, particularly blepharoplasty (or double eyelid surgery), are within a reasonable range.

Post-procedure care – We also looked at how these clinics took care of their patients post-procedure.

Credibility – We made sure that everyone in these clinics that conducts the surgeries are qualified and legitimate medical doctors.

Pros

  • Second consultation before surgery is free
  • Offers comprehensive and personal pre- and post-surgery care
  • Active member of the academe
  • Member of the APRSSA and HPCSA

Cons

  • Some reports on poor surgical outcome
  • Post-procedural care can be improved

Dr. Gabriel Doucas Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon is one of the most known and in-demand plastic surgery clinics in JHB.

Dr. Doucas is a graduate of the University of the Free State with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Through the University of the Witwatersrand, he was also able to practise as a Fellow at the College of Plastic Surgeons of South Africa.

Aside from being a splendid cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Doucas is also an active member of the academe, being included on the editorial board of a medical journal.

On top of that, he’s an acknowledged member of the Association of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa (APRSSA) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

We found these noteworthy because his apparent knowledge and involvement in the medical field and community ups his credibility as a professional.

Dr. Doucas offers comprehensive and personal pre- and post-surgery care to patients.

We love how the surgeon assures patients every step of the way and makes sure that all risks and processes are understood. Before any operation, it’s the clinic’s rule to consult with patients twice.

This gives patients the time to ask questions and clarify all information. What’s more, patients only have to pay for the first consultation and the second is held free of charge.

As for the fees for the procedure itself, previous patients find Dr. Doucas’ quotes reasonable.

We’re only iffy about the results of the doctor’s work. We spoke with several unsatisfied patients regarding their procedures’ outcomes.

For facial procedures, there are complaints about pain, discomfort, and bad scarring once the operation sites are healed. In relation to this, the patients feel the clinic’s after-care can be improved too.

To achieve the best results and to make sure that everything goes well after the surgical procedures, we think the clinic should be more proactive and attentive to the post-operation care of patients.

Pros

  • Has 40 years of experience
  • Member of several multinational organisations
  • Uses state-of-the-art equipment
  • Supported by qualified assistants

Cons

  • Shorter operating hours
  • Expensive

Dr. Saul Braun is a veteran plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a clinic at the Netcare Rosebank Hospital. He started his practice about 40 years ago and has completed hundreds of surgeries since then.

One thing that impressed us is the doctor’s firm foundation and network in his field. He’s appointed as the Clinical Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand and is affiliated with several organisations.

Dr. Braun is a recognised specialist and surgeon by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. He’s also part of several multinational organisations such as the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, APRSSA, and HPCSA.

More impressively, Dr. Braun is recognised by the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Braun aims to keep up with the latest technologies, treatments, and techniques in plastic surgery. Hence, the clinic’s facilities and equipment are state-of-the-art.

In addition, it’s a plus for us that he’s supported by accredited anaesthetists and highly-trained staff.

Dr. Saul Braun takes advantage of his expertise and international partnerships and seeks to offer his services to patients from abroad. Because of this, his pricing for surgical procedures, including double eyelid surgery, is higher than other clinics.

Also, take note that the clinic’s operating hours are quite shorter than competitors.

Pros

  • Has further specialised training in breast, lower limb, head and neck and hand surgery
  • Also holds a fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons in England
  • Author of several peer-reviewed medical journals

Cons

  • Post-operation care could be improved
  • Poor patient communication

Dr. Chrysis Sofianos is a young but accomplished surgeon with a formidable educational background in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

On top of his Master of Science in Surgical Sciences degree from the University of Edinburgh in the UK, Dr. Sodianos also completed further specialised training in breast, lower limb, head and neck, and hand surgery.

We’re also impressed to find that he’s a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS). He’s well-respected not only by his patients but also by his colleagues locally and abroad.

Dr. Chrysis Sodianos clinic is quite popular for providing top-tier cosmetic procedures at a competitive price.

We love how Dr. Sodianos is dedicated to continuous learning and supporting his work with research-based care focused on patients’ needs. He’s an active contributor to several peer-reviewed medical journals.

While previous patients are impressed with the quality of Dr. Chrysis Sofianos’ pre-operation and surgical procedures, we’re concerned about the clinic’s post-operation care.

There are several grievances about Dr. Chrysis Sofianos’ poor sense of urgency in cases where patients experience adverse effects and pain from their operations.

We’re told that the surgeon is hard to contact and seems dismissive of their concerns, which is disheartening. We hope that he can take this feedback onboard and work on his post-op care skills.

Pros

  • Recognised by several local and international medical organisations like APRSSA, ISAPS, and WSRM
  • Updated with the latest medical techniques and apparatus
  • Has international professional medical experience

Cons

  • Reports on having rude receptionists
  • Difficult to contact

Dr. Dimitri Liakos is one of the most- and highly rated cosmetic surgery clinics in the city. The clinic is run by Dr. Liakos, a renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specialises in breast, cosmetic and reconstructive microsurgery.

We selected Dr. Liakos for his admirable professional medical background. We’re impressed with his considerable experience in working for fellowships in three medical centres in Taiwan, USA, and Belgium.

Dr. Liakos is a respected member of the College of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa and the Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons of South Africa (APRSSA).

He’s also recognised by two international medical organisations: the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) and the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgeons (WSRM).

We also like how Dr. Liakos is very invested in adopting the latest medical techniques and research. This just shows his dedication to providing the best available care for his patients, which is a plus for us.

In addition, one of the features patients love about this clinic is its up-to-date facilities and cutting-edge medical apparatus. Take into consideration, though, that fancy technology and premium care can come at a considerable cost.

If there’s anything his clinic needs to work on, it’s their customer servicing.

First, there are complaints about the clinic having reportedly rude and unprofessional receptionists. Patients shared with us how it was tough dealing with someone from the front desk who shouts at and insults patients.

Lastly, there are also a handful of grievances about patients’ difficulty in contacting the clinic, especially for booking appointments and follow-up checkups. We’re told Dr. Liakos’ hotlines are usually busy and emails are rarely answered.

Pros

  • Known for excellent post-op care
  • Uses 3D imaging system to give patients a preview of the surgical results
  • Appointed department head in plastic surgery in two different hospitals

Cons

  • Difficult to book an appointment
  • Inconsistent front desk servicing

Precision Aesthetics is a plastic and cosmetic surgery clinic located in Midrand, Johannesburg. The clinic is run by Dr. Vernon Ching, an aesthetics surgeon practising at the Waterfall City Hospital.

Backed by his substantial educational foundation and fellowship training, Dr. Ching also has outstanding experience as a cosmetic surgeon.

In fact, before he started his private practice, he was appointed head of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Baragwanath Hospital and then head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at WITS a year after.

Aside from the surgeon’s expertise and superb workmanship, we like how the clinic looks after patients even after the surgeries to make sure they are guided towards the best outcomes.

On top of that, previous patients commend Dr. Ching for his efforts to keep the surgery’s cost manageable. They also appreciate how hands-on and frequent Dr. Ching and his assistants check in on their recovery.

Another awesome feature this clinic has is its innovative medical techniques and technology. Our favourite is the VECTRA XT, a 3D imaging system that allows patients to preview the anticipated results of their desired procedure.

Although, take note that Precision Aesthetics is one of the city’s busier cosmetic clinics. Even previous patients told us they had a difficult time squeezing themselves in for an appointment.

This isn’t helped by the fact that the clinic has a different person sitting at its front desk every once in a while. We’re iffy about how patients report that the quality of service and the receptionist’s attitudes are inconsistent depending on who’s on duty.
