Pros

  • Offers all-inclusive servicing for anything related to property and conveyancing
  • Cost-effective

Cons

  • Small team
  • Customer service can be improved
  • No working hours available

Benaters is Johannesburg’s highest-rated conveyancing firm. They’re a boutique law firm that specialises in property and conveyancing.

Even though they’ve only been in business for five short years, they’ve garnered overwhelming positive feedback from their clients, which we find impressive.

Benaters is run by a husband-and-wife tandem. Between the two, wife Roxy Benater is the expert in conveyancing, property law and the administration of deceased estates.

She is praised by her previous conveyancing clients for her collaborative approach, making sure that clients are looped in on important decisions every step of the way. She’s also loved by clients for her patience and confidence in handling cases.

One thing clients love about Benaters is they have creative and proactive solutions for anything related to property and conveyancing. Clients are impressed with the conveyancers’ apparent expertise in the field.

Clients also find the firm’s speedy solutions convenient. We’re impressed to hear Benaters’ conveyancers stick to agreed case timelines, which is a good practice.

Moreover, clients prefer Benaters for their flexible payment terms. We’re told the firm opens an upfront discussion of fees during consultation, which helps clients plan their options.

If Benaters had a flaw, it’s that their team is too small. The firm is literally composed of just the two attorneys, which can be an issue once the cases come flooding in.

Also related to this, we noted their customer service can still be improved. We’re told Benaters can take a while before attending to some clients, which can be a nuisance for some.

Pros

  • Has two experienced conveyancers
  • Well-established firm with decades of experience

Cons

  • More focused on family law
  • Often fully booked

Hugh Raichlin Attorneys, Notaries & Conveyancers is a renowned law firm providing legal services in a wide area of family law, deceased estates, conveyancing, labour law, drafting lease agreements and dealing with all aspects of landlord-tenant law.

They’re often chosen by their clients for their credibility, having decades of experience in the field of law and conveyancing.

Conveyancers Atty. Flax and Atty. Musnitzky both have impressive educational and professional backgrounds. They have 43 years and 22 years of law experience, respectively.

They handle the firm’s property transfers, including sectional title, commercial and residential properties, as well as the registration and cancellation of mortgage bonds.

Clients commend Atty. Flax and Atty. Musnitzky for being hands on and presenting timely and effective solutions. Clients tell us that these attorneys are very involved in their cases and like to get on top of things, making sure everything is controlled.

Moreover, both conveyancers are complimented by previous clients for establishing an organised schedule for each of their cases and planning their legal steps accordingly.

The firm is usually busy though, so it’s best to call in advance to set an appointment.

While they don’t do fixed rates, it’s easy to call in and ask for a quote. Although from what we’ve heard, clients seem to be satisfied with the quotations provided to them by the firm.

Hugh Raichlin Attorneys, Notaries & Conveyancers seems to be understaffed though. Considering their full plate, it appears there aren’t enough people to handle client communications.

There are also some minor grumbles about the firm’s representatives being unresponsive to potential clients’ questions and complaints.

3. Alan Levy Attorneys, Notaries & Conveyancers

Pros

  • Attorneys are accredited by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)
  • Two decades of experience

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Some reports on poor case handling

Alan Levy Attorneys, Notaries & Conveyancers started providing legal assistance more than two decades ago, and have won hundreds of cases since then.

The firm is sought after for its high-performing attorneys. Alan Levy Attorneys, Notaries & Conveyancers is a small team of five brilliant law experts, each with experienced impeccable know-how of their area of expertise.

They offer legal assistance in conveyancing, debt collection, family law, community schemes, labour law, commercial law, and litigation & dispute resolution.

Their past conveyancing clients commend the firm for its efficiency, creative solutions, and organised team. They tell us that as the conveyancers do proper research before making their moves, thus designing strategies that speed up the process.

Regardless, some clients find Alan Levy Attorneys, Notaries & Conveyancers’ service pricing a little higher than their competitor’s rates.

We also aren’t thrilled to hear minor complaints from clients regarding unsatisfactory service.

One client shared that the firm committed to premature actions on their case without informing them beforehand. Since the plan wasn’t finalised yet, the firm’s actions led to misunderstanding and complications with the buyer.

This then led to the transaction being dragged longer, which incurred the client to higher costs.

Pros

  • Firm is part of the panels of all the major banking institutions
  • Has a free online calculator on their website
  • You can check the status of your property online

Cons

  • Some reports on needing to improve client care
  • Poor communication

Faurie Nell Inc. is a small law firm in Johannesburg that specialises in real estate.

The team is composed of accomplished attorneys who have many years of combined experience in conveyancing.

They’re applauded by previous conveyancing clients for coming up with modern solutions that make processes easier.

To be more specific, they’ve digitalised all their processes and make use of advanced technologies for better organisation and efficiency.

Faurie Nell Inc. is partnered with all major banking institutions in South Africa, which is impressive. This is great news for clients as this helps the firm connect them with more buyers.

Moreover, they’re a B-BBEE LEVEL 1 contributor, which means they advocate for black economic empowerment. This also means the company has been consistent in providing high-quality service.

One thing we like about this law firm is they have an online calculator on their website which allows you to get an estimate of the transfer and bond costs, as well as the capital gains tax amount.

On top of that, we found it notable that they have an online progress report tracker, which allows clients to easily check the status of their properties. This is convenient, especially for clients who like to be in the loop all the time.

We do have a slight issue with how the firm handles some clients. A number of them we’ve spoken to seem to think that their cases aren’t being prioritised, which led to these dragging on longer than they should.

It also seems that communication isn’t Faurie Nell Inc.’s strongest suit. We’re told there are instances when the legal team assigned to cases proceeded with actions that weren’t consulted with and agreed upon by clients.

Pros

  • Has over 120 years of experience
  • Well-established with 11 offices throughout South Africa
  • Has 80 attorneys specialising in property law and conveyancing
  • Has a mobile app that allows clients to check the progress of the transaction

Cons

  • Reports on poor quality of service
  • Lackluster communication

Smith Tabata Buchanan Boyes (STBB) is one of South Africa’s biggest, oldest, and most-connected law firms, with over 120 years of experience in the field of law.

It’s almost unbelievable to witness a small firm grow this big and stay in service this long. Since their establishment in 1900, STBB has solved thousands of cases and has managed to open 11 branches all over the country.

They offer a long list of legal services in different branches of law but they’re well known as one of the largest property law practitioners in South Africa.

One thing we love about STBB is their wider pool of experienced conveyancers. They currently have 80 attorneys who specialise in property law and conveyancing.

Each attorney has an impressive educational background and years of experience in property law and conveyancing. Because of the attorneys’ expertise, clients feel confident letting them take over the case.

On the other hand, some clients report that they’re unhappy with STBB’s legal team’s poor sense of urgency. The client also describes the conveyancer assigned to them as inactive and impersonal.

This is inconvenient for clients who have a strict schedule to adhere to and need the sales money urgently.

We’re also disappointed that the firm itself doesn’t communicate well with its clients. We’re told clients do not usually receive updates regarding their transaction, which isn’t ideal especially for those who are eager to sell their property for money.

Pros

  • Long-standing Reputation
  • Dedicated and Personal Approach
  • Lean and Efficient Operation
  • Comprehensive Conveyancing Services

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Complaints of poor service

With a history dating back to 1984, Yammin Hammond Incorporated has built a long-standing reputation.

We think this longevity suggests stability and experience, crucial factors in the legal field, especially when dealing with property transactions.

The firm distinguishes itself by adopting a dedicated and personal approach to dealing with clients.

This personalized service is often a valuable aspect in the legal profession, where individualized attention can enhance client satisfaction and understanding.

Operating on a “lean and mean” basis, Yammin Hammond Incorporated aims to avoid the complications associated with large, bureaucratic structures.

We think that a streamlined operation can contribute to quicker responses, efficient communication, and a more client-focused experience.

Yammin Hammond Incorporated’s Property Law and Conveyancing department offers a range of services covering all aspects of conveyancing.

This includes drafting property agreements, dealing with mortgages and bonds, property development, and handling various registrations related to immovable property.

However, there have been complaints about their poor service and past clients branding them as inconsiderate and unprofessional.

Pros

  • Specialization in Property Law
  • Established Firm with a Long History
  • Experienced Conveyancers
  • Diverse Range of Services

Cons

  • Operating hours unavailable

Kuilman Mundell & Arlow Attorneys specialize in property law, offering a comprehensive range of services related to conveyancing, including deceased estates transfers, sale transfers, sectional title transfers, mortgage bond registration, and more.

Their focus on property law ensures a depth of expertise in this niche.

Founded in 1988 by Peter Kuilman, the firm has a long and established history.

Over the years, it has grown from strength to strength, evolving to meet the changing needs of its clients.

We think the continuity of the firm’s leadership and the addition of experienced practitioners contribute to its stability and reputation.

The conveyancing department, currently led by Kevin Baard and Tanya Deale under the supervision of Patrick Mundell, boasts experienced professionals in the field.

Their expertise covers various aspects of property transactions, including transfers, bonds, townships, and more.

In addition to conveyancing, the firm offers services in ante-nuptial contracts, administration of estates, and commercial matters. We find this diversification allows clients to access a wide spectrum of legal services within the same firm.
