Dr. Mark Steinmann is an esteemed plastic and reconstructive surgeon who runs a clinic in Lone Hill, Johannesburg. He completed his training at the University of the Witwatersrand and got his fellowship at the College of Plastic Surgeons of South Africa.

He’s also a member of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa (APRSSA) and is presently a registered surgeon with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Dr. Mark Steinmann mostly specialises in breast lift, revision, and reduction procedures, but also offers several cosmetic procedures and treatments for the face and genitals. For face treatments, he uses both Botox and Dysport for injections. 

We love how the clinic is very open when it comes to information dissemination about the treatments they offer. Patients appreciate the doctor’s efforts to communicate all necessary information (including risks) about the treatment before proceeding.

Dr. Mark Steinmenn is also preferred for his commendable bedside manner. Patients appreciate his sympathetic and accommodating approach towards all his patients.

Patients also value Dr. Mark Steinmann’s post-treatment care. We’re told the clinic regularly checks in on their patients weeks after their procedures, even when they don’t have appointments set, and we think this is great practice.

Another thing we love about this clinic is they’re well-staffed with skilled professionals. Dr. Mark Steinmann is supported by a practice manager, head nurse, therapist, and admin staff.

However, we are concerned with the report we received regarding Dr. Mark Steinmann’s poor treatment outcomes.  There are patients who weren’t satisfied with how the results of their treatments came out and had to transfer doctors for rework.

Thankfully, these were for other treatments and not for their jaw Botox procedures. Also, the clinic was very accommodating and prompt to address the issues, which we think is a green flag.

Finally, before you set your appointment with the clinic, also consider that Dr. Mark Steinmann’s rates are a bit higher than competitors.

Anti-Aging Art is a unique medical aesthetics clinic based in Houghton, Johannesburg. The clinic specialises in minimally invasive anti-aging and cosmetic treatments, but what makes it special is their holistic healing and wellness centre.

They offer a wide range of cosmetic treatments for the face, body, and hair. Anti-Aging Art also has physiotherapy and holistic healing services.

We also like that the clinic sells a sizeable collection of cosmetic and skincare products as it’s convenient for customers.

The clinic is run by Dr. Reza, a world-renowned expert in aesthetic medicine. Frankly, we chose anti-aging art to be part of our list because we were impressed with the doctor’s solid track record and background.

We’re fascinated to hear that Dr. Reza is South Africa’s assigned representative for Hyalual, which is an esteemed innovative company based in Switzerland. 

They focus on scientific development and manufacturing of improved services for anti-aging therapy, aesthetic medicine, rejuvenation, correction and restoration of the skin.

Furthermore, we found that Dr. Reza is also a recognised member of MENSA, which is we think is amazing as only individuals with an IQ score belonging to the top 2% of the general population can join the organisation. 

Another thing we like about this clinic is their fabulous facilities. The space is well-kept and equipped with the latest medical equipment.

Allow us to give you a heads up, though. Anti-Aging Art’s pricing for their cosmetic treatments is a little costlier than other clinics, so be prepared to shell out a bit more.

There are also a handful of grievances about the clinic reportedly having unprofessional personnel. Some patients appariently found the receptionist to be rude and unhelpful, which is disheartening.

Skin Renewal is a well-established and one of the most popular cosmetic dermatology and aesthetic medicine clinic in all of South Africa. Presently, they have 18 clinics nationwide, which is convenient for their patients.

Our favourite thing about this clinic is their staff. They have a large, well-trained team of over 23 doctors who all specialise in aesthetic medicine. 

On top of that, they’re supported by highly-trained and experienced therapists, nurses, and support personnel.

Their medical team is highly-commended by previous patients for their expertise and professional conduct. Patients appreciate how doctors made sure they were informed and comfortable every step of the way, even during recovery.

Skin Renewal offers skin, body, and health renewal programmes. For skin renewal, a long list of skin tightening and anti-ageing solutions, including Botox and Dysport injectables, are available at the clinic.

We also like how transparent the clinic is with its pricing. Their Botox shots are priced R 80 to R 90 per unit, which isn’t too bad, despite being a little over the average cost of R 70/unit.

We’re also iffy after hearing a handful of complaints about Skin Renewal’s poor treatment outcomes. Some customers were disappointed to find their facial lines and wrinkles coming back only less than a month after their Botox treatment.

What’s worse is there are also several grievances regarding the clinic’s weak patient support. We’re told their doctors and representatives can be difficult to reach out to when patients encounter issues with their treatments.

Amaranthine Aesthetics is one of the most recommended clinics in Johannesburg that specialises in advanced skincare and aesthetic medicine. They’re preferred by many for their accessible location and competitive rates.

They offer a variety of skin treatments and procedures, including micro-needling, facials, chemical peels, and Botox treatments.

We like that they’re transparent with their service rates and you can easily view the pricelist on their website. A unit of Botox is reasonably priced at R 75 – how much you need for the treatment will be determined after the initial consultation.

On top of that, Amaranthine Aesthetics offers discounts for featured treatments too, so make sure to keep an eye out. They also offer reward points for regular customers, which accumulate and you can use to pay for treatments.

We also like that they have a wide range of skin care products for sale in the clinic. 

Our only issue is Amaranthine Aesthetics’ small team. Their schedule can get busy sometimes and because their staff is limited, it can be difficult to book an appointment.

Moreover, there are several minor complaints about the clinic’s customer service. We’re told their representatives are difficult to contact and aren’t that consistent in responding to patients’ enquiries and questions.

Dr. Chrysis Sofianos is a rising star when it comes to plastic and reconstructive surgery. One of the reasons why we included him on our list is his impressive medical background.

First of all, Dr. Chrysis Sofianos is very well-educated. He has a Master’s degree in Surgical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom and specialised training in breast, lower limb, head and neck, and hand surgery.

It’s also a big plus for us how he advocates for active learning and continuously participates in research to provide scientifically proven and safe treatments. In line with that, Dr. Chrysis Sofianos is a contributor to several medical journals.

He is also part of a wide network of like-minded professionals. Dr. Chrysis Sofianos is a recognised member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS).

His clinic is also preferred by many for its competitive pricing for advanced and top-calibre cosmetic procedures and treatments like Botox treatments.

Although most of his previous patients are satisfied with Dr. Chrysis Sofianos’ patient care and post-treatment outcomes, we do have an issue with the clinic’s aftercare.

We’re told there are cases where patients experience pain and discomfort from their treatments, which understandably causes anxiety among patients. 

We’re disappointed to hear that Dr. Chrysis Sofianos seemed unconcerned and did not show any sense of urgency after receiving the reports.

Additionally, there are several complaints saying that the clinic is dismissive of clients’ concerns and is difficult to reach out to after treatments, which we think is appalling.
