We’re disappointed to hear some of their previous clients are unsatisfied with the contractors’ seemingly haphazard work. Clients grumble that their solutions don’t last long and cause more concerns in the long run, which is disappointing.

Also, there are minor complaints about Visible Improvements’ delayed servicing. We’re marking this as a red flag as this can be an inconvenience for clients with tight schedules.

We love that they have an expert for a wide range of maintenance needs, including carpentry, tilling, electrical, painting, waterproofing and damp proofing, mold growth solutions, and more.

The business was founded only a little more than a decade ago, but what impressed us is its long list of regular clients. Their being new in the business did not hinder them to faze clients and encourage them to use their services again.

Spare Husband Handyman has already completed more than 3,900 jobs for households and businesses. Their clients shared with us their high regard for Spare Husband Handyman’s team of professional and approachable contractors.

However, take note that Spare Husband Handyman is based outside of the city and may take longer to arrive onsite for farther locations.

Also, there are some who set an appointment with the company in advance and ended up disappointed that Spare Husband Handyman’s team did not show up. We’re told the clients also tried reaching out to their representatives, but to no avail.

They offer an extensive range of services covering house waterproofing, damp proofing, painting, repairs, and refurbishment. Most of their clients hire them to repel damp and deal with house molds.

Abrogate is preferred for its strong reputation and team of skilled contractors. They also offer a guarantee for their work, which we commend.

Abrogate’s team is small but efficient and is often complimented by previous clients for their professionalism and efficiency. Clients also choose their services for their affordable rates for their services.

Another thing we like about this company is they’re very dedicated to only using durable and reliable materials. Abrogate is partnered with several big brands like Safeguard, Drachem, and Derbigum.

We’re only a bit iffy about Abrogate’s inconsistency when it comes to workmanship. There are several cases where clients report the company’s ineffective solutions for water damage in their houses.

We’re told Abrogate’s team had to re-visit and re-work their projects shortly after completion because problems they were supposed to solve were immediately back, sometimes even worse than they were initially, which we find appalling. 

5th Element Cleaning is an up and rising cleaning and consumable provider based in Norwood. They’re a relatively new and growing cleaning and restorative service provider that assists both residential and commercial properties.

We love that the company offers a long list of inclusive preventive and remedial cleaning services. Their team members are experts when it comes to dealing with homes and furniture damaged by water-causing molds.

It’s also a big plus for us that they specialise in black mold removal in walls and roofs, as well as house items like carpets and cabinets. 5th Element Cleaning is well-resourced with high-quality equipment needed to test and get rid of molds.

However, it’s worth noting that 5th Element Cleaning’s services are more focused on cleaning and restoration, and not preventive solutions. 

Thus, if your home has persistent damp areas and faulty waterproofing, mold can form again even after it was cleaned off. This means that you might need to hire a separate contractor to permanently get rid of it, which also means additional expenses.

One of our favourite features about this company is they give out instant service quotes online through their website. We think this is a good strategy as it’s very convenient for clients.

Also, there are several complaints about 5th Element Cleaning’s representatives being difficult to contact for inquiries and follow-ups, which is disheartening.

Maintenance Aid is one of Johannesburg’s most- and highly-rated waterproofing contractors. They’re a proudly African business with a Level 1 BBB certification that’s led and owned by a black woman.

They service in and around Johannesburg and Pretoria and has assisted hundreds of household and businesses in waterproofing, damp proofing, painting, and repairs. 

We selected Maintenance Aid for its solid track record and strong workforce. Their team of contractors are skilled and continuously trained to provide excellent service to their clients.

Maintenance Aid is also highly sought after because they’re known to provide cost-effective solutions. For mold, they’re dedicated not just to repairing but also to preventing future water and mold damage too. 

We like that they offer a guarantee for their work. However, we are disappointed to hear that it’s not always honoured. 

Some of their clients complain about how Maintenance Aid’s representatives do not attend to their guaranteed work requests even months after first reaching out.

Unfortunately, their customer service representatives are quite unresponsive too even for new and prospective clients. We’re told the company’s hotline is rarely available and it’s difficult to get ahold of staff via Whatsapp, too.
