Salon 8 Till Late is a hit among our ladies, especially those who can only get their hair done post-5 pm.

We also considered their longevity. The salon has been styling locks for around 10 years now.

That experience usually shows in their services. Several clients specifically mentioned Yolandi and Wendy as fantastic stylists who are skilled, accommodating, and typically on time.

As for the vibe, it’s what we’re looking for—mellow and clean. The great bit is that the salon is right in Bloem but remains quiet and leafy, which is a total mood-setter.

Price-wise, it’s right there with the city’s standard. For instance, a ladies’ cut is about ZAR 160, and it can decrease when those holiday deals drop.

If there’s a snag, it’s their Sunday closure. We also wish that more package deals would be offered.

Still, no complaints about variety. The salon has over 20 services.

Christo is there Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 already, so ladies if you quickly want to wash and blow give them a call, before work your hair will be done and perfect to handle any task at work during the day.

My workmates with dreadlocks vouched for Quorum, so we gave them a look. After our interviews and research, we’d say our folks didn’t cap.

For one, styling dreadlocks is indeed their speciality. Many said that their locs became healthier post-visit and that no breakage occurred.

Aftercare here is also not skimped on. Clients noticed that the staff provides constant tips and tricks, like how to prevent an itchy scalp or how to wash locks properly.

Perming is another area of expertise. From what we gathered, stylists like Freddie are usually on point at providing defined, clean curls that typically last.

Just call early since locking in slots can be a challenge, mainly from Friday to Sunday.

The salon should also consider posting their prices, as it helps in budgeting. Fortunately, they don’t overcharge.

Additionally, Quorum styles kids and toddlers, and they’re quite gentle in doing so, a bonus for parents like me.

Bella Donna was one of the first salons that popped into our minds. That’s not out of a whim, as their rates don’t go beyond the typical in Bloem’s.

The haunt is meant for breathers, too. Indoors, you get a classy and airy space; outdoors, there’s a healthy garden that acts as eye candy.

We love the sweet extras, too. While waiting for our cut and colour specialist, Nick and his crew offered us tempting cookies, fudge, and coffee.

The washes gained them bonus points as well. Dora did mine, and she thoroughly cleansed my locks, even leaving them with a healthy sheen.

Of course, there are drawbacks. For starters, they’re our only pick that shuts doors on Mondays and Sundays.

We’d also pop by more if deals or discounts become more frequent.

Other than that, they’re solid. The six-plus years of experience and super warm staff work to their advantage.

We can’t rave about quality and long-running salons and just forget about Hair Reflections. Twelve-plus years in the hairstyling industry gets them some love.

Their loyal client base showed us they’re doing something right. We have interviewees who’ve been with the salon since 2012. When asked, they cited the competitive rates as a massive reason for their patronage.

That said, their stylists are quite popular and get fully booked quickly. Regulars highly suggest calling first instead of just opting for walk-ins.

If you get them, though, you’re in good hands. Pros like Leonie and Christine were brought up, with many saying they do both short and long hair well, particularly when it comes to colouring-related services.

Parents might also be glad that they handle kids with ease. Well, our workmate can attest to that, as her energetic little one was calmed by Christine.

True to its name, cuts and trims are what House of Scissors does best. They also do it affordably, with both ladies’ and gents’ cuts staying within Bloem’s usual range.

That’s not to say those two are their only quality offerings. In fact, they have about 10, including advanced keratin treatments and extensions.

The 10-plus years of experience, at least in my case, make the salon desirable as well. 

I have no issues with the products they use either. Moroccanoil is their go-to, and the professional-grade brand gets lots of love for making hair look smooth and healthy.

My main complaint is that there are no operations on Sundays, which is usually the only time I’m free.

They also close earlier compared to the previous entries.

The silver lining is that seasonal deals aren’t rare.
