Dr Chandran has an impressive educational background with one just one, but three Master’s Degrees in Dental Public Health, Oral Pathology, and Periodontics, Implantology, and Oral Medicine. 

Previous patients tell us that they love how they’re kept well-informed, assured, and comfortable by Dr. Chandran.

Another reason why we selected Joburg Dental is its state-of-the-art, modern medical equipment. At the same time, they’re up-to-date with recent dental techniques and procedures.

The only problem with a highly sought-after dental clinic is how busy they get. There’s usually a long queue of patients waiting to be treated by Dr Chandran, so we suggest you call in advance to score a slot.

In relation to this, there are minor complaints from previous patients about the clinic’s unorganised queuing system. We’re told there are instances where some people get away with cutting in line, especially when the patient knows someone from the clinic.

We hope that Dr. Chandran and his staff can rectify this issue, so that they don’t get flagged for partiality towards certain patients.

Melrose Dental Studio is a small but high-performing dental clinic in Melrose, Johannesburg. Dr. Edwin Alberts, the dentist who leads the clinic, is a passionate doctor with a strong interest in cosmetic dentistry.

One thing patients love about their experience with Melrose Dental Studio is their personalised treatment plans. Patients compliment Dr. Albert for his reassuring manner, and for being hands-on with their treatments.

Another thing we found remarkable is how all of Melrose Dental Studio’s staff members are well-educated, qualified professionals with solid academic backgrounds in dentistry. 

With knowledgeable support staff, patients feel more at ease, especially during dental crown installations and other dental procedures.

Patients love how the clinic is open daily. This means they can go there any day, which will prove especially useful in emergency situations.

We’re told there are even days when Melrose Dental Studio would extend their work hours to accommodate more people, which is admirable.

That said, it’s worth noting that Melrose Dental Studio has a very small team and there are days when it can get very overwhelming at the clinic. We suggest you book an appointment in advance.

However, when the clinic is packed and there’s no one designated to take calls, it can apparently be a challenge to even book an appointment. 

We hope Melrose Dental Studio can expand its support team to provide better customer service.

Lastly, there are minor grumbles about the clinic’s rates being more expensive than others. Prepare for more premium price tags when you choose this clinic.

Another popular clinic to get dental crowns from is The Thinc Clinic. They’re an exclusive medical centre that provides services in dentistry, optometry, and body and skin aesthetics.

We like that they’re active in research, development and innovation. Their advanced technology and progressive medical techniques are, in fact, some of the features their patients appreciate.

The Thinc Clinic’s team is led by outstanding professionals in dentistry, followed by their assistants who also have an outstanding background in the field. Also, their support staff members are praised by previous patients for their know-how and professionalism.

We’re also impressed with how big The Thinc Clinic’s team is. Because of this, they’re able to provide care for more patients.

The quality of their processes and materials used for dental crowns and implants is highly commended by previous patients. They also love how The Thinc Clinic is able to digitally plan and design implants on the spot.

However, all of these come at a high price. So, this might not be the best option for those on a tight budget.

We’re just disheartened to hear several grievances about the clinic’s poor customer communications. 

We’re told some by some potential patients that they were turned off by impolite receptionists. There are also a handful of grumbles about very late responses to quotation requests and enquiries.

Dr. Prelene Jaglal’s dental clinic is highly-regarded and popular for its accessible location and affordable prices. They’re situated at the heart of Joburg’s central business centre.

Dr. Jaglal’s clinic provides services for general and paediatric dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, and prosthodontic treatment. Patients who asked for dental crowns commend the clinic for its seamless procedures and clean work.

The clinic is led by two dentists, both with extensive experience in several aspects of dentistry and orthodontics. The dentists are assisted by a small team who are often complimented by previous patients for their organisational skills and friendliness.

Another selling point is their special discounts. Every month, the clinic features a certain treatment and offers it at a discounted rate.

Their regular rates are quite affordable too, which their patients surely appreciate..

Having said these, we’re just a bit iffy about the clinic’s post-procedure care. There are a handful of complaints from previous patients who experienced pain after receiving dental care from Dr Prelene Jaglal’s.

Some patients are also not satisfied with the doctor’s handiwork. One of them shared that they had uneven crowns installed in their mouth.

We’re also dispirited by the clinic’s lack of accountability. We’re told that when a patient who experienced pain reached out to the clinic to report their dissatisfaction, they were just referred to another clinic.

Dr. Gerald B Kaplan is one of the principal prosthodontists in the city. The clinic is popular because of its tenure and affordability.

Dr Kaplan is a veteran in his field. He has over 52 years’ worth of experience in dentistry and has mentored many dentists and apprentices, which we’re impressed by.

He offers a broad range of services, including dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, dentures, root treatment, and teeth whitening. Patients can go to him for multiple services, which we find convenient.

We like that Dr. Kaplan makes sure to adapt new techniques and acquire world-class facilities and medical equipment. Though the clinic is small, it’s fully furnished with top-class technologies to treat patients.

Take note, though, that Dr. Kaplan refuses to treat children. There are several parents who were very disappointed after their kids were denied treatment.

On top of that, there are some grievances regarding his attitude while attending to patients. We hear that he can apparently be dismissive and condescending, which is disappointing.

We’re also not pleased with how Dr. Kaplan responds to negative feedback and criticism. We found him to be very defensive – and this is a red flag for us.
