Pros
- Has three reproductive specialists
- Over 40 years of experience
- Also an accredited IVF unit
- Fully equipped with the latest technology
- Partnered with some medical aids
Cons
- Weak patient communications
- Reports on having rude and unprofessional staff
Medfem Fertility Clinic is one of the most popular fertility clinics in Gauteng province, and rightfully so. The clinic is run by three qualified reproductive experts, assisted by knowledgeable nurses, embryologists, pharmacists, and theatre and support staff.
They offer an initial consultation, testing, fertility treatments and procedures, and counselling and support. We also like that they have an online ovulation calculator live on their website, which women can use to track cycles and ovulation
The clinic is considered a forerunner in the field. Medfem Fertility Clinic was established over 40 years ago and is responsible for the successful birth of more than 16,000 babies, which in our opinion is truly impressive.
We love that the doctors in charge are active in the search for the next better thing, all the while maintaining their standard of service.
Aside from their admirable performance, we also selected the clinic for its state-of-the-art facilities. It’s a big plus for us and patients that they’re fully equipped with the latest medical technology.
They’re also a recognised In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) unit accredited by the Southern African Society for Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecological Endoscopy (SASREG).
It’s great news to know that Medfem Fertility Clinic is partnered with several major medical aids like Discovery, Chartered Accountants Medical Aid Fund (CAMAF), and MEDIFIN.
Medical aids are an immense help in lowering medical costs and we think it’s awesome that the clinic is able to accommodate more beneficiaries.
We think that the Medfem Fertility Clinic needs to improve its communication with patients, though. Some former patients shared that they felt like they weren’t kept in the loop with regard to their cases, thus leaving them anxious.
We’re also told there are cases where some staff members behave rudely and deal with patients unprofessionally when they have complaints or inquiries. This, for us, is a red flag.

Pros
- World-class laboratory and clinical standards
- Offers a broad range of fertility tests and treatments
- Transparent rates
- Run by three credible doctors
Cons
- Incidents of poor information dissemination
- Reports of inattentive staff members
The Bio Assisted Reproductive Technology (BioART) Fertility Centre was formerly known as the Nordica Fertility Centre. They’re led by two brilliant fertility specialists and one renowned OB-GYN.
We included them on our list for their advanced technology and techniques, and the crucial role they play in the advancement of fertility treatments in the country.
In fact, they’re the first clinic in South Africa to have a telemedical Fertility Quality Control (FQC) system and Laser Assisted Hatching. They’re also the first to introduce oocyte vitrification.
Aside from the basic fertility tests, they also offer a broad range of fertility care and treatments like in vitro fertilisation, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, assisted hatching, and surgical sperm retrieval.
This is great news for patients who want to explore their options.
We also like that the clinic is transparent with its service rates, which are easily accessible through its website. A consultation which includes an ultrasound costs R 1600 per couple.
Although, you would have to pay extra costs if you want to get a blood test, sperm analysis and uterine insemination (IUI). BioART Fertility Centre also has IVF/ICSI treatment for R 65 000, which is considerably cheap as it usually costs around R 90000.
Nonetheless, we do have some concerns about how BioART Fertility Centre treats its patients.
Firstly, we’re baffled to hear a considerable number of complaints regarding the clinic’s poor information dissemination.
Many of their previous patients grumble that they were left confused after speaking with the doctor and ended up with very little understanding about all the medication they were given.
We think this is appalling and unprofessional, especially as it involves the well-being of patients.
On top of that, we’re disappointed to hear that their receptionists aren’t any better. Instead, they’re described by previous patients as discourteous and unattentive.
We hope that the clinic can address these issues urgently, as it can tarnish its impeccable reputation.

Pros
- Wide range of fertility services
- Strong team of superb professionals
- Easy appointment booking online
- Top-notch facilities
Cons
- Reports on overcharging
- Long waiting time
Joburg Fertility Centre is a renowned fertility expert popular for its strong team of medical experts. Their top-calibre staff is actually one of our reasons for choosing this clinic.
They’re led by Dr. JE Moloi, an accredited gynaecologist, fertility specialist, and endoscopic surgery expert. He’s also assisted by other excellent doctors, nurses, and support staff.
Their team is highly praised by previous patients for their expertise and friendliness. We love how patients reportedly always feel assured and safe whenever they visit the clinic.
We also appreciate how the clinic adopts the latest medical technologies and is updated with the newest treatments available. In fact, Joburg Fertility Centre is highly sought after for its comprehensive list of services.
Besides fertility testing, the clinic also has a number of treatments for infertility available. This includes IVF, surrogacy, egg and embryo freezing, genetic testing, and a donor programme.
You can also have your laparoscopic procedures in the clinic, which is a plus for us.
It’s nice that appointment setting is easy and hassle-free, as slots can be booked online through their website. The clinic’s representatives are quite active in communicating with patients too, which is awesome.
However, some patients are discouraged because of the long waiting time in the clinic, despite setting an appointment beforehand. Patients end up feeling restless after waiting in the lobby for more than an hour.
We’re also concerned to hear repeated reports of overcharging. Previous patients told us that there are cases where they were billed for procedures that they did not have, which is a red flag.
While this may simply be a case of mixing up patients, it wouldn’t hurt for the clinic to improve their due diligence as fertility treatments are expensive.
4. Lifeart Fertility Clinic

Pros
- Partnered with major medical aids
- Lowest IVF with ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) rates
- Offers assisted reproductive therapy
Cons
- No online appointment bookings
- Unresponsive customer service
We chose Lifeart Fertility Clinic primarily because of their mission to make fertility treatments accessible. One of their unique features is their low-cost complete in vitro fertilisation cycle with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Actually, compared to others on our list, they have the lowest rates for the mentioned treatments at just R 29,500.
Moreover, Lifeart Fertility Clinic is also partnered with major medical aids to help patients with the costs of fertility tests.
They also treat both men and women. For fertility tests, the clinic conducts a physical examination, blood tests, ultrasound examination, and semen analysis.
Lifeart Fertility Clinic also offers assisted reproductive therapy, which includes blastocyst culture, sperm washing, assisted hatching, in vitro maturation, vitrification, and ovulation induction, among others.
Unfortunately, the clinic doesn’t have online appointment bookings. We think it’s a bit of a hassle that patients need to either call in or go to the clinic in person.
It doesn’t help that Lifeart Fertility Clinic’s representatives are unresponsive in acknowledging patients’ concerns and questions.
Nonetheless, their doctors and support medical staff are highly commended by past patients for their professionalism and impressive service. We’re also told the clinic is always well-kept and comfortable, which is nice.

Pros
- Has 40 years of experience
- Affordable rates
- Up-to-date technology
Cons
- Reports of having indifferent staff
- Long waiting time
Dr. Am Aikman Fertility Centre is one of the principal fertility clinics in South Africa. They have an impressive 40 years of experience and were actually the clinic that produced the first in vitro fertilisation conception in private practice in SA.
We’re impressed by how the business grew after many years. Presently, they’re updated with the newest medical approach and their clinic is furnished with state-of-the-art technology.
Because of their reputation, many couples from different cities travel to avail of the centre’s services. Thankfully, the clinic is situated just a few kilometres from the airport and is also near accommodations.
Dr. Am Aikman Fertility Centre is also highly in-demand for its reasonable rates for fertility care. We also like that they offer medical assistance for those who can’t afford treatments.
However, we have minor issues with the clinic’s front desk staff, particularly with their attitude while assisting patients. We hear the receptionists can be indifferent and discourteous, which can be discouraging for anxious patients.
Lastly, there are also some grievances about the long waiting time. Regardless of appointments set, past patients complained that they had to sit for about an hour and a half past their supposed schedule.
