Dr. Sandra Fonseca is one of the obstetric and gynaecology specialists in JHB. Her clinic is currently situated at the Life Bedford Gardens Hospital.

The College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of South Africa admitted Dr. Fonseca a fellow in 2016. 

She’s also part of an association called Gynomed, which is a group of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist specialists who advocate for accessible gynaecologist coverage for patients 24/7, 365 days a year.

Dr. Fonseca also applied that advocacy to her private clinic, and it’s actually one of their competitive advantages. A lot of patients are also appreciative of the clinic’s 24-hour emergency care, and how promptly the medical team responds.

On top of that, Dr. Fonseca and her team are also highly commended for their excellent bedside manner. We think this is a vital characteristic patients have to look for when choosing the right OB-GYN as it greatly influences recovery.

Another thing we love about Dr. Sandra Fonseca is their long list of medical services offered. The clinic provides surgical management for several conditions that can manifest in every stage of a woman’s life.

Dr. Sandra Fonseca’s clinic is also well-equipped with modern technology and implements research-backed and proven medical techniques.

If there’s anything the clinic needs to improve on, it’s their patient communication. Previous patients complained that it’s difficult to reach the clinic even during their regular operating hours.

We also find it concerning that there are several complaints about the unwelcoming attitude of the clinic’s receptionist. We’re told the staff can be rude and often provide incomplete information about the procedures and costs.

Oxford Maternity is a small clinic formed by a group of medical professionals who specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology. 

We chose this clinic primarily because they have several OB-GYN doctors compared to other private clinics where there’s usually only one. Oxford Maternity is run by nine reputable and experienced doctors.

Most of these doctors, including Dr. Francois Retief, Dr. Juliette Phelp, and Dr. Frances Paterson, have their own private clinics too. However, at Oxford Maternity, they’re only focused on maternity care.

A remarkable feature of Oxford Maternity is its advocacy for providing affordable pregnancy care and a safe centre for both mum and baby. It’s awesome that the clinic is partnered with all major medical aids.

The clinic is also highly praised for having the best doctors and for delivering impeccable service. The supporting staff are also complimented for being knowledgeable and friendly.

However, we noticed there isn’t much information about the clinic’s doctors on their website and brochures. We would have preferred if it was easier for patients to know who the doctors are through their profiles. 

That way, it would also be easier for patients to choose which OB-GYN they want to assist them during maternity up to delivery.

On another note, previous patients find it an inconvenience that the clinic’s hotlines are rarely answered, and that it’s also difficult to reach out to Oxford Maternity through email. 

We hope they can hire more trained receptionists and improve their communication with patients.

Next on our list is Dr. Railene Naidoo’s clinic. They’re a small private obstetrics and gynaecology clinic quite known for their excellent service and neat space.

We included Dr. Railene Naidoo on our list for its fully-furnished clinic, equipped with the latest equipment. We also admire Dr. Naidoo’s perseverance in expanding their knowledge and actively adapting the newest and best medical approaches available.

It’s also a big plus for us that the clinic offers a wide selection of medical services, all under one roof. Dr. Railene Naidoo provides basic to complex treatments in gynaecology, obstetrics, and minimally invasive surgery.

The clinic’s patients are also grateful to receive high-quality medical care at an affordable price. Dr. Railene Naidoo is contracted with medical aids, which are a great help in relieving costs.

However, we’re a bit iffy about Dr. Railene Naidoo’s admin processes and logistics at the clinic. We’re told appointments are often mixed up, which is dismaying as it confuses patients and wastes their time.

Moreover, there are a couple of grievances regarding the clinic’s long waiting time. This is inconvenient, especially since the clinic requires patients to set an appointment in a certain time slot.

Dr. Frances Paterson leads her own private clinic at the Netcare Parklane Hospital. She’s an obstetrician and gynaecologist sought after for her expertise and excellent bedside manner.

The clinic is also popular for providing gynaecological services covering puberty to menopause, as well as maternity care. Some of the most common medical services are contraception and family planning, infertility screening, antenatal visits, and deliveries.

Dr. Paterson is most interested in maternal medicine, handling multiple pregnancies, and exploring recurrent pregnancy loss and its effect on mothers.

We love that she’s a maternal health expert and an active advocate. Previous patients also tell us that the doctor’s passion and attentiveness are very noticeable when they handle patients, which we think is a green flag.

Another thing we love about Dr. Frances Paterson is its excellent post-procedure and post-delivery care. We appreciate the clinic’s efforts to make sure patients are monitored properly after undergoing surgery or giving birth. 

Although, their customer service doesn’t seem to meet the expectations of many patients. We hear Dr. Frances Paterson’s receptionists sometimes act dismissive and rude towards inquiring patients.

We also have an issue with the clinic’s appointment setting. Patients tell us they often experience repeated appointment rescheduling without a clear explanation from the doctor or the clinic’s staff, which they find a nuisance.

Dr. Esther Rockson is one of the most in-demand OB-GYN clinics in the city. The clinic specialises in women’s health, pregnancy management, fertility, genetic screening, and aesthetic gynaecology, which is one of its unique features.

They’re the only female gynae clinic on our list that offers aesthetic services. It’s worth mentioning that Dr. Rockson is internationally trained in aesthetic gynaecology, which ups her credibility.

For aesthetics, Dr. Esther Rockson works on G-Spot enhancement and O shot, labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, laser vaginal tightening and rejuvenation, and botox.

On top of that, they’re also a one-stop shop for all gynaecology and pre/post menopause treatments. Their long list of gynaecology and obstetrics services is also one of their strengths as a business.

Take note, though, that Dr. Esther Rockson’s clinic is contracted with only a few medical aids. If your healthcare provider is not included on their list, you might end up spending a substantial amount on treatments.

Dr. Esther Rockson accepts 24/7 emergency service calls, which is awesome. Previous patients appreciate the doctor’s dedication to meeting pregnant women whenever there’s a problem or when it’s time to deliver the baby.

Another thing we love about this clinic is its strong support team, composed of trained staff. Dr. Rockson is also assisted by a professional nurse and midwife.

Although, we’re a tad disappointed with how Dr. Esther Rockson’s lines for patients are unresponsive. We’re told there are instances when the clinic is difficult to reach out to, which is a hassle, especially for urgent matters.
