Pros

  • Swift installation
  • Has plans for businesses and residences
  • Wide coverage
  • Uncapped internet

Cons

  • Only offers fibre connection for business plans
  • Expensive

Jenny Internet is one of South Africa’s independent wireless internet service providers. They’re a well-established company that also services other countries, such as Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia, and Eswatini.

They’re one of the most sought-after and rated fibre broadband service providers in Gauteng province, too.

Jenny Internet offers internet plans for both businesses and residential homes. However, their fibre internet connection is only available for business plans, which are, of course, more expensive than wireless home plans.

For their Wireless Business PRO plan, Jenny Internet offers three kinds of broadband plans depending on the maximum speed.

Their lowest is 15 Mbps, which costs R 999 monthly. Their best and fastest plan comes with a speed of up to 50 Mbps, which is priced at R 2499.

We like that Jenny Internet offers options in terms of connectivity. You can either avail of the traditional fibre direct, which uses fibre optic cables, or fibre via wireless, which is a more advanced technology.

Jenny Internet is also one of the internet service providers with wide coverage. We like that they’re not just focused on urban areas, but also provide their services in far-flung rural districts.

It’s also worth mentioning that they don’t put a cap on data, letting users use the internet without limit.

Previous clients commend Jenny Internet for their swift installation and their trained and friendly technicians. Product reliability-wise, clients are generally satisfied with the stable internet connection.

Pros

  • Has fibre internet plans for both homes and businesses
  • Has discounted installation fee
  • Affordable plans

Cons

  • Reports on poor internet connection
  • Poor customer servicing

Active Fibre is an internet service provider rising in popularity in South Africa. They’re often preferred for their quick and easy application process.

The company offers fibre internet connection to both residential homes and businesses, which is great. We also selected Active Fibre for their affordable fibre internet plans.

For Fibre to the Home plans, Active Fibre is partnered up with Openserve and promises to provide stable, uncapped, and high-speed internet. As usual, each plan’s rate depends on the download and upload speeds.

The basic fibre plan of up to 25 Mbps download and upload speeds costs R 599 monthly, while their fastest plan of 200/100 Mbps download and upload speeds costs R 1199 per month.

On the other hand, their Fibre to the Business plans are more expensive, ranging from a monthly rate of R 1500 for 10/10 Mbps to R 5000 for 200/200 Mbps download and upload speeds.

Take note that Active Fibre also charges installation fees. Thankfully, they lowered their initial rate of R 2250 to just R 1250.

Moreover, installation fees are waived for all 36-month Fibre to the Business contracts. Clients also get one month free of charge if they choose one of their business fibre plans, which is a big perk.

We have concerns, though, with the quality of Active Fibre’s internet connection. There are several complaints about lags and high pings, which can be annoying.

What’s worse, there are reports from paying customers saying there are days when there’s no connection at all, which we think is baffling.

Unfortunately, their customer servicing is inconsistent too. We’re disappointed to hear how Active Fibre’s representatives are often difficult to reach out to and technicians rarely come on-site to fix connectivity problems.

Pros

  • Month-to-month contracts
  • Well-established company with over 20 years of experience
  • Easy application process
  • Prompt installation

Cons

  • Does not have fibre plans for businesses
  • High cancellation fee

Imagine Protocol Solutions (IPS) is one of the first internet service providers in South Africa.

We’re impressed by how they’ve grown as a business 20 years after their establishment and now, they’re offering connectivity via wireless Internet, ultra-fast fibre, and telephony through VoIP services.

IPS is partnered with several open-access infrastructure providers for their fibre internet coverage for residential areas. It’s a bit of a letdown that they don’t offer their fibre broadband services for businesses, unlike other companies.

Their unique feature is their no-commitment servicing. Unlike other companies, they don’t tie clients down through long-term contracts, which are usually valid for 24 months.

Instead, clients can pay on a month-to-month basis for as long as they want to stay connected. We think this is a great perk, especially for those who want to try their services out first before committing.

They’re also praised for their simple application process and prompt installation. We’re told it usually just takes two days for a connection to be established, which is a shorter waiting time compared to some competitors.

Watch out for the high cancellation fees, though! If you’d like to terminate your month-to-month 10Mb/10Mb fibre connection plan priced at R 649, the cancellation fee costs as much as R 2709.

Pros

  • Partnered with several major fibre providers nationwide
  • Has fibre solutions for both homes and businesses
  • Offers several contract validity options
  • Offers as much as 500/250 Mbps uncapped connection

Cons

  • Poor after-hours customer servicing
  • Reports on poor connection

Easyweb is a multifaceted telecommunications company based in South Africa. They offer business essentials such as fibre internet connection, wireless internet connection, VoIP, virtual server hosting, and even website development.

We like that they offer fibre solutions for both homes and businesses. It’s also impressive that they’re partnered with several major fibre providers nationwide, which makes Easyweb’s services more accessible.

For Fibre to the Home plans, Easyweb uses the services of eight different fibre providers. On the other hand, they’re partnered with six business fibre solution providers.

It’s also a plus for us that clients get to choose what fibre service provider they like best.

Another thing we like about Easyweb is they offer several contract validity options, unlike in other companies where it’s a fixed period of time. Some of the partnered fibre providers offer month-to-month, six, 12, 24, and 36 month-contracts, which is awesome.

Easyweb also has flexible fibre plans with several choices for download and upload speeds. What impressed us was their 500/250 Mbps plan for fibre to the home uncapped connection, which has the best download and upload speeds on our list.

We’re disappointed to hear several complaints regarding Easyweb’s poor internet connection. Clients tell us there are instances where clients experience slow to no connection for several days.

Unfortunately, their customer servicing, particularly their after-hours support, isn’t their strong suit either.

There are a handful of grievances reporting that Easyweb’s representatives are often a challenge to contact and can be dismissive in handling complaints.

Pros

  • Wide area coverage
  • Partnered with seven major service providers
  • Affordable fibre broadband packages
  • Free installation and delivery

Cons

  • Unresponsive customer support
  • Long waiting time for installations
  • Relatively new provider

Real Broadband Solutions is one of the country’s most popular internet service providers. They’re known for their “fibre in your complex” coverage, which allows them to provide connection to even secluded areas.

Although they’re still a new company, only having a little over five years of experience in the business, we’re impressed with their growth and how well they were able to build their business reputation.

Real Broadband Solutions provides internet connection services to single-dwelling homes, complexes, and businesses.

They’re partnered with seven major service providers, which allows clients to choose which supplier and broadband plan is best for them.

One thing we love about this company is its affordable fibre broadband packages. Their most advanced plan that allows impressive download and upload speeds of up to 200/200 Mbps is priced only at R 1399 monthly.

It’s also a plus for us that Real Broadband Solutions’ delivery and installation services are free.

Considering how the company’s market is those in isolated areas, take note that installation may take a while.

For streets where there are already fibre cables laid out, installation could take 7-21 working days. However, if there aren’t fibre cables laid out yet, installation can take longer, approximately 6-8 weeks.

If there’s anything Real Broadband Solutions needs to work on, it’s their inactive customer support. We’re disappointed with the piled-up reports and complaints about the company’s representatives being unresponsive.

This is baffling, as Real Broadband Solutions claims to be dedicated to high-quality customer communication.
