Startups don’t need to spend top bucks with Truehost. This provider has affordable plans with Jozi pricing, like the Starter package (R35), hosting 10 websites and offering 30 GB of SSD storage.

Domain registration is another cheap service they offer. A co.za domain, for one, will set you back R50 a year, and it can be WHOIS-protected to secure your personal info.

Having extra control and security is also made possible by their VPS (Virtual Private Server). Dedicated CPU cores and a 50 GB SSD storage come with the deal, perfect for growing businesses (R80 a month) and heavy-duty applications like e-commerce sites.

Customer support is hit or miss, though. Some found their agents quick and friendly, others not so much, with long wait times and delayed (sometimes non-existent) email replies as the biggest gripes.

Unsurprisingly, not everyone is into talking to AI chatbots as well, especially for urgent matters.

Domains’ 25-year record makes them stand out. Plus, they have a full suite of services, including domain registration, hosting (web, email, VPS, etc.) and even domain reselling.

Customer service isn’t that dodgy either, with interviewees rating the provider’s response speed, multi-channel support, and expertise highly. We found their clear, spoken-in-basic-English explanations quite handy, too.

One potential snag is the pricing. Their packed bundles are equipped with over 10 features, but the lowest plan is already priced at R109 a month.

A few clients have also mentioned instances of day-long downtimes here and there.

On the upside, there’s a 60-day, money-back guarantee, which gives you enough time to explore the features and test out speed/reliability.

Startups watching each penny should give Oner Hosting a gander. They have a R39-per-month package for personal or low-traffic sites that’s built with 2 GB of space, one domain, one database, and up to 5 sub-domains.

You’re not stuck with one billing setup either. Having it billed monthly or annually is your call, and both options allow for a 2-month free trial.

Round-the-clock support is another benefit you get with them. In fact, we phoned them outside of business hours, and an agent named Emmanuel picked up fast and answered queries enthusiastically.

A tiny blip is that they’ve sent emails to the wrong inboxes. That may cause trouble if you miss updates, mainly price changes.

The 2021 start date could also be a turn-off for folks after more seasoned companies, say those with a decade or more in their resume.

Absolute Hosting’s package variety offers a ton of wiggle room. Unlike most providers with 3 to 4 plans, they have 5 here, each loaded with essentials such as Gen 5 NVMe storage, AMD EPYC high-frequency CPUs, and unlimited bandwidth.

Now, if that sounds too alien, we get it, but you shouldn’t panic over that. Their team is consistently labelled as “great at providing step-by-step guidance” even to non-techy clients.

Rates are keeping pace with Jozi, too. The lowest-price bundle costs R39 per month and can host two WordPress websites.

Going the annual billing route, though, is what we suggest. It’ll get you complimentary domain registration (the R39 plan is excluded from the offer).

If there’s a minor drawback, it’s the dashboard. Some clients found it overly complicated.

The more glaring weak point is their history of downtime. While occasional, this has drawn complaints from a number of interviewees.

Out of every provider here, Webway has the cheapest starting plan. We’re talking about their R34 a month bundle, which already includes a free website builder, SSL certificates, SSD storage, and daily backups.

Customising a package isn’t off the table either, and it works for every service. That’s a deal not everyone offers.

The fact that they’re eco-friendly is another bonus. Solar energy powers their servers, with generator and battery backups to keep them running.

Webway’s email hosting, however, isn’t the most glowing in terms of track record. Users have moaned about hiccups like receiving spam, signature cancellations, and periodic downtime.

Some clients have also flagged late emails and call responses, as well as unfulfilled callbacks.

Other than that, they hold up well, especially if you’re after an easy-to-use website builder. The tool has a simple drag-and-drop setup and over 200 themes to play with.
