Snip away the bad hair days at the best hair salons in Nelspruit!

Expertise: Salons with hairstylists who hold relevant hair therapy degrees/certifications were favoured, especially if the paperwork came from a national or international body/university. Portfolios and documents were checked to confirm that.

Salon Atmosphere: By visiting the salons and interviewing past clients or patrons, we assessed each entry’s spaciousness, layout, lighting, hygiene, and aesthetics.

Customer Service: Feedback, interviews, test emails/calls, and actual experience helped us score the salon staff’s responsiveness, professionalism, aftercare, consultation quality, and ease of booking.

Range of Services: We called and browsed service menus to identify the range of offerings. Only salons with styling and cutting services cracked the top spot, and those with more treatments, like hair botox and keratin, scored higher.

Pricing: Lastly, cost-effectiveness was gauged using quotes and package rates. Transparency, special deals or discounts, and proximity to Nelspruit’s typical pricing range were the other bits accounted for.

Looking polished in Nelspruit is hardly a mission. Sure, it’s a bit small (some don’t even think of it as a city), but there are enough salons in town to keep your hair and ego boosted!

I’ve spent some time wandering, discovering, and judging every decent place that promises head-turning dos.

And since I’m not the type to gatekeep the good stuff (as my Potchefstroom and Paarl hair salon reviews give away), I shared the salons that got my seal of approval, with the crew’s help, of course. We’re all hair-obsessed here.

Salonique proved worth every rand. The trim I got was reasonably priced, and the same is true for most of their services, like styling, extensions, and wedding dos.

Having other beauty treatments in the same spot works in their favour, too. Patrons can pop by to get their lashes, nails, and makeup sorted, and even the lads get to enjoy beard maintenance!

Just ring ahead to review the rates. They can fluctuate without a heads-up.

Another reason to call in advance is Salonique’s popularity. It’s a rather busy joint, especially when that “20% discount on all services” promo is dropped.

Thankfully, space and atmosphere aren’t a problem. The friendly staff are fab at keeping talks rolling, and coffee is available if you need a sip (though we believe the pours of these Joburg coffee shops are better).

Oh, and they stock professional brands! Bio-Kinetic, Wella, Joico, GHG, and Schwarzkopf were the names I saw most.

Pros

  • Open for over 17 years
  • Offers discounts and bundles
  • Wide range of services
  • Reasonable pricing

Cons

  • Prices may vary at any time
  • Can be hectic

Helpful, Friendly, and Inviting

Couldnt have anything nicer to say about the staff, all are helpful, friendly and inviting. They listened to what I wanted and refined my haircut to perfection. Also got the best products available. Thank you Cherise who did the actual cut and style, you’re a gem! I’ll be back 😁

1000% will recommend Salonique!

I’d sum up Meraki Hair Studio as relaxing. It’s minimalistic and trendy, with enough space to keep clients from elbowing one another.

The quality isn’t an afterthought either. Stylists like Gene and Susan did my waves, cuts, extensions, and colours before, and the results came out looking sharp.

Pretty sure those pro-grade brands also made a difference. After all, Kadus and Wella products are known for their consistency.

If there’s a moan-worthy bit, it’s the salon’s high demand. You might not lock in your preferred schedule.

A loyalty program would also be sweet, given their loyal client base.

Past that, I’m not complaining. Qualified and bubbly stylists are a win for me, and so are free massages and cappuccinos.

They even roll out seasonal offers. Last time around, I nabbed a 5% discount on one of their retail products.

Pros

  • Open for over 5 years
  • Wide range of services
  • Offers seasonal discounts
  • Laid-back minimalistic setup

Cons

  • No loyalty program
  • High demand

Cuts My Hair Perfectly

Love the studio. Gené always cuts my hair perfectly, I literally fly down from Cape Town to get my hair cut by her. Not to mention the massages while you’re getting your hair washed! Definitely recommend Meraki!

Cizelle Hair Studio takes their sweet time when it comes to consults. Pre-treatments, all clients receive professional guidance to avoid disasters, like cuts not matching facial shapes or skin tones.

The service menu is packed as well. I’ve come here for general/speciality cuts, styling, extensions, and shampooing treatments, all properly done.

Colouring is what they do best, though; the salon is a legit Schwarzkopf supplier, after all. Just ask the patrons who come back for lowlights, highlights, and tints.

Bridal hairstyling is another thing people rave about them for. It’s mobile, so you don’t have to budge an inch.

Deals are quite rare, sadly. We featured picks that toss in discounts and bundles now and then.

In addition, booking is a must. Cizelle’s top stylists are often swamped.

Good thing the space itself isn’t. I’m a fan of the airy setup and minimal decorative accents, with hanging plants to boot.

Pros

  • Open for over 10 years
  • Offers mobile services
  • Specialises in colouring
  • Provides thorough consultations

Cons

  • Rarely offers special deals
  • Top stylists are sought-after

11/10

Hands down the best hairdresser in town. Walk in scruffy, walk out a rockstar. Great vibes, serious skills, and Cizelle just gets my hair and knows what works for me. 11/10!

Matte and Ashe are a bang for your buck. Weekly deals are the norm here, making them a safe bet for beauty buffs after bundles or freebies, like blow-wave services.

If you’re worried about the regular prices being steep, don’t be. Pricing is still decent for Nelspruit even without the deals in effect.

Better yet, you’re paying for quality. The salon’s hair colouring treatments, for one, are consistently praised for providing clients with natural-looking and long-lasting results.

We’ve got no gripes with the vibe either. Their stylists are bright and bubbly, a perk also reflected by the roomy space.

Besides, who’s not a fan of getting offered a free cappuccino the moment they enter a salon?

Like most, however, they’re big favourites. The chances of them getting slammed aren’t zero.

Plus, they’re not the longest-running studio here. Five-plus years is no joke, but we featured decade-old options.

Pros

  • Offers regular discounts
  • Affordable pricing
  • Specialises in colouring services
  • Has freebies like coffee

Cons

  • High demand
  • Relatively new

Friendly Staff, Great Service

Loved the experience at Matte & Ash. I’ve been looking for my ‘forever salon’ since my last stylist moved, and I can officially say I found it. Friendly staff, great service and the prices are fair. Thanks so much! Looking forward to my next appointment!

I’m so impressed

I just had my first “MATTE & ASH” experience and all I can say is WOW 🙌🏻 From the moment I walked in there I was made to feel so welcome – As if I had been a client for life! I was asked if I had been offered something to drink by at least 5 people (I mean that doesn’t even happen in a restaurant) and I was given the most delicious cappuccino ❤️ I was full of demands so my appointment went on for quite a while and well into lunch… But that’s not a problem because for super long appointments you are given a complimentary lunch 🙌🏻 I’m so impressed with everything about this place and I hope my hair grows super fast so that I have to come back for a touch up ASAP 😂 Thank you to everyone (especially Candice) for making me feel welcome, and thank you to Dané for my beautiful blonde hair ❤️🙏🏻🤗

The stellar grooming services of Moroccan Barber have earned them a steady following. Scores of Nelspruit lads, tweens, tots, and teens go here to up their style game.

Their bread and butter? Fly, modern cuts achieved via classic barbering, followed by beard/moustache treatments, wet shaves, and facials.

Naturally, that makes them very short on the flexibility side. You’re not pulling up here for colour work or keratin treatments.

Busy days are common, too. Even Saturdays don’t slow them down.

To be fair, people queue up because of the professional service and reasonable prices. The latter is even sweetened by seasonal deals like winter and spring discounts.

Waiting isn’t a slog either. Coffee and juice are poured for free, and Stefano’s, a Mozambican-Italian bar (love the pizza here), is a hop away.

Moroccan Barber’s packages can save time as well, since they combine multiple grooming treatments in one session.

Pros

  • Specialises in men’s grooming
  • Affordable prices
  • Offers special deals and free drinks
  • Services clients of all ages

Cons

  • Limited services
  • Busy up to Saturday

Best barbershop in town

Best barbershop in town. It’s not just a haircut, it’s a revitalization. You always leave fresher than you came. Shoutout to my barber Mohcine. Keep up the good work Moroccan Barber.

Reasonable Price

Very good and fast haircut for a reasonable price. Very happy with the results.

They might be busy but right next to it you have Stafanos Italian restaurant where you can wait enjoying an excellent meal and cold beverages. The barber will come for you when it’s your turn 👍
