We hit up Cutting Edge after hearing about their accuracy and personalisation. See, many claimed they got exactly what they came for here.

Turns out, they weren’t lying. For one, the stylists gave our lads and lasses tailored haircuts, taking our face shape and hair type into serious account.

From what we’ve clocked, they have pro-grade brands as well. KMS is the big one, a brand hyped for making hair extra vibrant and healthier.

The interior isn’t quite roomy for us, though. Its luxe decor and pop of green are pleasing, mind, but some extra space wouldn’t hurt.

There’s also no app for booking or loyalty programs. Most salons we frequent have that convenience.

To be fair, Cutting Edge’s system isn’t messy. Sessions, including the early-morning and pre-opening ones, are scheduled properly, with walk-ins also handled well.

Having 10-plus years in the game also works in their favour.

Anyone chasing after bargains and quality results should give Hairtrends a gander. You can grab monthly packages and discounts here, including deals not offered elsewhere, like the snack and drink bundle for father-and-son cuts last June 2025.

And there’s a loyalty program, so the freebies only get sweeter for patrons! One of my workmates, for instance, enjoys extra head massages and haircut promos.

We also commend their lengthy service menu. Past the usuals, the salon offers special treatments such as Kadus velvet oil conditioning and fibre infusion.

That brings us to the products. You’ll spot high-end names (e.g. Schwarzkopf and Indola), most of which are available for purchase.

Unlike the first entry, however, the salon shuts down on Sundays, which is rough if that’s your only day off.

It’d also be handy if there were an app for sorting booking matters.

We’ve got no grumbles space-wise. It’s roomy, modern, and well-lit.

Scarlet Scissors didn’t overcharge us. They handed us quotes that were proper for Potchefstroom, with some promos to boot.

Still, it’s the results that matter, and they didn’t disappoint. The ladies (me included) buzzed over the colour work, while the lads were chuffed about their cuts, which only cost R180.

The free beverages were also a nice gesture, and the salon itself was cosy, thanks to the charming staff and home-like decor. Space wasn’t an issue during our visit either.

However, there are a few flaws. One major downside is they’re only open for 5 days, whereas most entries grind for 6.

Another snag is demand. The fair pricing and large service portfolio (they do repair treatments) attract lots of clients, including kids, students, and brides.

Experience isn’t a weak point, fortunately. Scarlet Scissors has been cutting, styling, and colouring for over 10 years now.

Seamless Colour

I asked for a natural blend of red and copper, and Karien gave me exactly what I dreamed of—beautiful, seamless colour with a perfect trim that still looks natural and soft. Even though I arrived an hour late, she stayed after hours just to make sure I didn’t miss out. That kind of care and dedication means so much. Every time I walk in, I feel completely welcome, comfortable, and like I can just be myself. Karien has a real gift—not just with hair, but with people too. Thank you for always going the extra mile!

My birthday was made so special, thanks to Chandine and her amazing team! It was a fantastic experience, and my hair now perfectly matches my personality, there are many ways i can style it still. Your hair type, be it long, thin, short, or curly, hardly matters at Pro Hair. Their stylists are consistently praised for being versatile.

The service range is just as flexible. We swung by for cuts and colours but could’ve easily booked a day for treatments, extensions, updos, blowouts, straightening, and more.

Oh, and the modern interior really stuck with us. The muted colour scheme, exposed concrete floors, and minimalistic decor give the space a classy, uncluttered look.

We’ve got nothing but love for the customer service, too! Both Kobus and Alina greeted us with cordial smiles, and the cuppa was a fab touch.

Sadly, Sunday hours aren’t on the cards, and they’re not the cheapest pick in town. You have to book and budget smartly.

There’s a silver lining to that. See, discounts are occasionally dropped, and most services come with scalp massages, advice, and high-end products.

All the stylists were fully booked for the time period i asked for so i was helped by the student hairdresser. I have no complaints whatsoever. The Look Hair Gallery is among Potchefstroom’s finest when it comes to natural-looking colours. Just ask clients who popped by for balayage or other customised shades.

That’s not their only acclaimed service, though. Many score the salon’s frizz control highly, particularly the Coffee Tox treatment, said to be fantastic at making locks shinier and manageable.

Best of all, their prices are reasonable, with the cuts, colours, and highlights right within the city’s range. Those seasonal deals are the cherry on top.

So, is there any catch? Well, the salon’s hours are quite limited, given they’re only open 5 days a week.

You must be patient as well when trying to book their top stylists, Megan and Bianca. Both are in demand, meaning locking them right away isn’t a certainty.

But hey, the two are worth waiting for! Glowing records aside, they’re easygoing and keep it professional.
